Singer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A lead singer (in barbershop music simply called a lead) is one who sings the primary vocals of a song, as opposed to a backup singer who sings backup vocal(s) to a song or harmonies to the lead singer.
Composers write music for these instruments, understanding the skills and vocal properties of the singers.
An exception is in five-part gospel a cappella music, where the lead is the highest of the five voices and sings a descant, never the melody which may be in any of the other four parts.

vocal eliminate, remove or reduce software
Vocals cannot be removed from songs that were; recorded monaural (versus stereo), monaural songs that have been digitally remastered into stereo, songs with modern surround sound or other 3D effects, and songs with heavy chorusing effects added to the vocal.
MP3 files can vocal reduce, but the results are not as good as files imported from Audio CDs.
The remaining vocal "ghost" echoes are usually so low that you become the lead singer.

 Bob Rock: Recording Vocals
Recording vocals for me has both a technical and a musical dimension, both of which must be addressed together in all recording projects.
Every artist, song, vocal instrument, and environment is different for each recording.
I try to select the microphone for each recording that I believe will best suit the character of the singer's vocal sound and the character of the music.

Vocals Only: Producers' Hall Of Fame
Vocals Only proudly announces that vocals from a Vocals Only Remix Pack are featured on Live at the Roxy 3, a new continuously mixed CD by Grammy-winning producer, Peter Rauhofer.
Vocals from "Take One," a Remix Pack by Vocals Only recording artist Carmen, are featured on "The Enlightenment" by William Umana, the first track on the continuous-mix double CD.
"We're excited that our vocals have helped producers like William Umana reach their goals of producing tracks that have the quality, groove and energy to be included on a mixed-CD by one of the hottest DJs in the world," says Tim Roseborough, founder of Vocals Only.

Finally, whether intentional or not, the grisly vocals of death metal, black metal, and hardcore are an effective repellent against listeners who aren't committed to approaching the music on its own terms.
This vocal style is not to be confused with the rasping, higher-pitched shriek of Norwegian black metal bands such as Darkthrone, the thick-necked barking of weight-lifter metal bands like Pantera, or the anxious roar of current Headbanger's Ball favorites like Shadows Fall.
Newcomers to the genre often wonder about this – that is, why metal bands spend so much time composing intricate music and detailed lyrics only to go and "ruin it" with those awful guttural, growling vocals.

Removing Vocals - The Sonic Spot
Removing vocals from an audio track has long been the desire of musicians and remixers in order to obtain the instrumental version of a song, otherwise available only as a complete mix.
Additionally, effects, such as echo and reverb are often applied to vocals before they are recorded to the final mix.
Due to the complexity of many music and audio tracks, removing vocals using the method described above may result in poor or useless results.

phorum - GENERAL - Re: Apocalyptica with vocals ??
If for some reason, vocals are to be "included" in the songs, I hope their will be 2 versions of the same song; one purely instrumental and the other with vocals...
I agree with kick-x, songs with vocals are/MAY downgrade the original song and hurt the band's music...
For me the songs with vocals are skip-songs.

New Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock BI-BY
Bollenberg's vocals are OK, but not necessarily the best suited for this medieval styled music, and the whole thing comes across sounding a bit contrived for a concept album.
There are vocal tracks in Parfum d'étoiles, but first, they are only 4 in number (and almost 49 minutes of the album's time are instrumentals).
Secondly, the songs are in themselves of high quality, and the singer knows the tricks of her trade (one song is sung in English, and her manner of singing reminds in places of Sally Oldfield in Hackett's album Voyage of the Acolyte).

Ted Perlman: Ted Says: Background Vocals
This means that they will play the lead vocal and musical tracks, give them a lyric sheet, and see what they come up with.
This is a big strain on the background singers, because they have to make someone sound good who perhaps has the vocal ability of a toad, although a pretty toad with big breasts signed to a major record company with a powerful manager and a smart lawyer.
Chances are that even the most tone deaf among us will pick up on the "chorus" sung by the background vocals, rather than the riff-laden lead vocal, which is usually beyond the vocal ability of all but a few God-blessed individuals.

dmusic.com - Forums: Vocals: Guitar vs Vocals
Vocal tracks, from what I've seen, tend to have the bass dropped a lot, whereas the mid and high tones are boosted up somewhat.
With the Lead Guitars and Vocals, I tend to mix them higher in the mix as they are single note instruments.
EQ the vocals during mixdown (and adjust the other tracks accordingly).

Jay Kahrs: Mixing Tips for Vocals
When I’m tracking vocals I try not to use any EQ.
A short delay can "enlarge" the sound of the vocal - use a setting near 30 ms to "double" the vocal, and keep it low in the mix.
Remember not to overdo it - I don’t like to have my vocals swimming unless the singer can’t sing (like me) or you want that spacey / trippy thing.

How to Record and Process Vocals in your Home or Project Studio
This is after your vocal tracks are recorded.
First is the recording process where the vocals are recorded.
Just a final note, you can compress again after the vocal is recorded as you prepare your tracks for the mix.

 Recording Lead Vocals
Without a doubt, the best general advice for the aspiring vocal producer is to take any opportunity to encourage and compliment the singer &; don't underestimate how much a singer's performance depends on his or her emotional state.
Most of the time when recording vocals it's best to keep the effect of the room on the sound to a minimum, so keeping well away from the walls is a good idea.
The lead vocal inevitably generates the largest number of vocal-related reader queries, and rightly so — many tracks have been transformed into hits simply by an inspired vocal.

 David Young Music - Vocals
These three vocal CDs have a heart-warming, lyrical approach that could be compared to James Taylor or Cat Stevens.
The first recording that features David's voice and songwriting, accompanied with contemporary Celtic instrumentation (Mandolin, recorder, acoustic guitar, harmonium, viola, hurdy gurdy, violin, cello, bass, drums, & vocals).
The bonus track, A Christmas I'll Remember is the #1 Most Added Song to Adult Contemporary radio right now in the United States on the FMQB chart, and stations in New York and all over the country are getting a great response to its fresh sound.

Dusty Groove America - Vocals CD
The trio mixes jazz vocal styles with other influences -- like bossa harmonizing or gospel soul -- and their records from the 60s are wonderful gems, dripping with soul and emotion that you'll hardly ever find on other vocal jazz LPs from the time, transforming songs into sublime versions that differ greatly from other renditions.
The original album features Bobby on piano and vocals, with only bass and drums behind him -- and the CD features a bonus 6 tracks recorded in more recent years, with larger backings.
This CD is probably the main reason for Andy's success -- as it's a compelling batch of jazz vocal tracks that show Andy reinventing himself for a whole new generation of jazz listeners.

 Celestial Voices
Sally's unique and beautiful vocals are combined with intricate harmonies, passionate bass rhythms, earthy percussion, and divine keyboards to create a contemporary album of such power that it leaves the listener craving to hear it again and again.
Boden, a former ballerina with a penchant for dance beats, is at her best when her light and breathy vocals are applied to sweet melodies.
Her hypnotic vocals have made her one of the most sought-after session singers in Europe and the UK.

Home Recording dot com BBS - From rap vocals to soul vocals...
He taught me to record my vocals in 5 layers: 1 lead, 2 backing, and 2 'adlib' (to emphasise certain parts), panning the layers like a pyramid with the lead at the top, same goes for the volume.
Her vocals sound far too 'harsh' lately and no amount of reverb or warmth or eq or anything is fixing it, do I just need a better mic for her?
Anyway back to the original problem - the soul singer - and yes, I have been using the same pyramid technique with her vocals and I've got to say, it doesn't sound good at all.

Virtual Turntable: Isolating Vocals from Background Music (Part 1)
Here is an mp3 clip of one bar of music with the vocals, one second of silence and then the same exact bar of music with the Vocal Cut preset assigned to it.
While these articles will focus on singers and vocals the same techniques apply to any solo instrument you wish to isolate from the rest of the track such as saxophone, guitar, etc.
The best you can hope for is to isolate the vocals so that the original background music is significantly filtered and then literally drown it out with other things in your remix.

DT's "Number Of The Beast": Vocals Re-Recorded?
If those vocals are re-recorded then that is without a doubt the best I have ever heard James sing.
After listening to the cd for the last couple of days,I was kind of suspecting they might be re-recorded too because James just sounds too perfect. He's hitting some pretty high notes (like at the end of "Children Of The Damned") that I haven't heard out of him (live or studio) in quite awhile.Either way, great cd.
Maybe they took the vocals from that show.

The 2 Vs of Digital Music (Violins and Vocals) - GameDev.Net Discussion Forums
OK, anyone here who has tried getting violins or "aaaahhh" vocals to work without a live recording knows that it is a pain in the ass.
Providing they're sustained, choral vocals can also take a bit - or even a lot - of reverb before they start to sound odd.
When I write modules, I add a bit of fade-out on both violins and choral vocals, so that you don't hear the abrupt transitions.

Recording Vocals From A to D
Once a vocal track sounds great, it's time to get it in to the computer.
For recording loud rock vocals, Ogilvie specifically likes the Neve 1063 and 1081 mic preamps, in part because of their versatility.
That is, when you start playing around with plug-ins [on a vocal track recorded with an SM7], the effect seems to be more extreme.

Blogcritics.org: Using Technology Creatively For Better Vocals
Once those takes are recorded, it's time to "comp" the vocal, which means going through the multiple takes of vocals on separate tracks and editing them down to one or two tracks of the final lead vocal.
Reverb, echo, electronic vibrato and double tracking are some of the most basic vocal effects, and they date back to at least the days of the Beatles, and have lasted all these years because they work.
Once all those takes are recorded, and comped down to one or two main tracks of vocals, and as the song gets closer to being mixed down, it's time to add "the ear candy".

 Vocals - Thumped
If the vocal doesn't sound cool on its own with no eq, re-record it until it does.
Recording vocals and getting them to sit right is the hardest thing of all I reckon.
Just keep listening over and over looking for where instruments are stepping on each others' and the vocal's toes, keep making little cuts or boosts until you're happy.

 Sixeyes :: by Alan Williamson.
The vocals and harmonies have that well worn, slightly offbeat/off kilter veneer that feels organic, and in fact it's Sendrowitz vocals and lyrics which outshine anything else in the songs.
The songs are, for the most part, framed in the raggedy guitar sounds of the early nineties, but the band is quite capable of walking or running as the song dictates, despite playing their first live gig a scant four months ago.
From the meduim sized university city of London, Ontario, the members are Eric Howden (vocals and guitar), Chris Donais (guitar and vocals), and Brady Parr (drums), with renowned producer Andy Magoffin (House of Miracles studio) helping out on bass and vocals in concert.

 OT: Vocals
I was listeneing to the latest Kenny Wayne Shepherd CD, I noticed his vocals sounded a lot like Lenny Kravitz.
Haven't heard the new KWS album, but I would imagine that rather than 'effect' its more a combination of similar preamps, similar mics, similar technique on the vocal track, and perhaps (if its the newer Kravitz you mean) what I would consider to be over-compression.
Well, on Lenny Kravitz's more recent stuff, to me it sounds as if everything's been compressed beyond belief, guitars mostly, but vocals too.

We do have some news that the split recording with Hatebeak (the metal band with a bird on vocals) is finally out.
The assembly has enabled us to also record some new songs for a split with a band prior called Hatebeak which has a bird on the vocals.
The majority grindcore and fatal metal strips (orchestras) have the singers, trying to sound similarly to the broken (upset) deranged animals anyhow so they have decided to use a real thing.

 Neowin.net -> Removing vocals from MP3's?
Ok, a simple way to remove vocals (and btw it doesn't work for all songs, but for alot) is to invert one of the stereo channels, then mix the channels to make it mono.
EDIT: the reasoning behind this method is that the vocals are evenly mixed between both channels, whereas the instrumentation is ussually mixed left and right.
you can equalize the vocal frequencies out of an audio file.

SWEET CHRIST, HOW I LOVE HATEBEAK, THE DEATH METAL BAND WITH A PARROT ON LEAD VOCALS.
They will not tell me. It was simply enough for them to admit only that they hail from "within the deepest bowels of Satan." This is a band that hates humanity so much that utilizing an actual human being as their vocal expressionist is out of the question.
BT: Clearly, one cannot just walk into Petland and request a parrot whose vocal and musical proclivities side with Napalm Death, Cannibal Corpse, Neurosis and the like.
