Orr, J. B., and Klein, M. "Instruction in Critical Thinking as a Form of Character Education." JOURNAL OF CURRICULUM AND SUPERVISION 6/2 (1991): 130-144.
Orr and Klein (1991) go so far as to say that:
Some researchers and developers (e.g., Hansler 1985; Orr and Klein 1991; Pogrow 1988) offer evidence that this approach enables students to learn thinking skills, rather than merely learning ABOUT them.

 Critical Thinking
Since the early 1980s, Richard Paul has preached the need for critical thinking to everyone who would listen.
We need to think aloud and open ourselves up to hearing what we are saying so that we can think better.
Eastern voices on improving thinking go back at least as far as Lao-Tzu (604 – 531 BCE), Confucius (551 – 479 BCE) and Ashoka (273-236 BCE).

They have a special way of seeing and thinking about the world which is shared with others through the works they create.
You'll also discover that while learning to "think like an artist" can be fun, it can also be hard work!
But, being an artist involves much more than simply "making pictures." Artists are curious individuals who are driven by a desire to create and a willingness to take chances.

 Critical thinking - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch
Within the framework of skepticism, critical thinking is the process of acquiring information and evaluating it to reach a logical conclusion or answer.
One arrives at a tentative conclusion, given the evidence and based on an evaluation.
Given the nature of the process, critical thinking is never final.

 Educational Psychology Interactive: Critical thinking
Critical thinking is a complex activity and we should not expect that one method of instruction will prove sufficient for developing each of its component parts.
Synthesis (which might be considered more equivalent to creative thinking) requires an individual to look at parts and relationships (analysis) and then to put these together in a new and original way.
They work to establish the differences between critical thinking and other important aspects of thinking such as creative thinking.

 Human thinking
However, this conception indicates the place of thinking in the series of natural phenomena and, as we shall see, puts a vast multitude of facts together in a system.
The core of our conception is not some hypothesis regarding the concrete structure and working mechanism of the brain, but rather a selection of those functional concepts through which a consistent and sufficiently convincing explanation of the facts we know about thinking becomes possible.
We still know so little about the process of thinking and the structure of the thinking brain that any theory claiming to explain this phenomenon as a whole is hypothetical.

 About Systems Thinking
Based on a field of study known as system dynamics, systems thinking has a practical value that rests on a solid theoretical foundation.
Systems thinking is a way of understanding reality that emphasizes the relationships among a system's parts, rather than the parts themselves.
This is why looking at the world through a systems thinking "lens" is so powerful: It lets you actually make the world a better place.

Thought - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thought or thinking is a mental process which allows beings to model the world, and so to deal with it effectively according to their goals, plans, ends and desires.
Thinking is a higher cognitive function and the analysis of thinking processes is part of cognitive psychology.

 Thinking About Design Thinking
I've heard it used in any number of ways, some of which are vague enough and/or general enough so that they are insulting to other professions.
Probably the phrase in design circles I'm hearing the most these days is "design thinking." As in, "We need to bring some design thinking to this project." Or "What sets designers apart is their design thinking." It's even on the main image of Stanford's new d school website.
In design, decisions without an emotional component are lifeless and do not connect with people.

Critical thinking is "the examination and testing of suggested solutions to see whether they will work."

 Introduction to Systems Thinking
When one thing affects another thing it can only add to or subtract from that which it affects, otherwise there would be no influence at all now would there.
The indication is that resources is a constant within the structure being considered so it neither add to nor subtract from, it just is. You might think of a constant as a catalyst for the result.
Figure 5 indicates that resources interact with productivity in such as way as to add to the finished goods inventory.

As these tools were developed they were then believed to be appropriate mostly for more intelligent or more advanced learners.
Now we understand that the skills of problem-solving, analysis, synthesis, creativity, evaluation, and other higher order thinking processes can be taught and learned, even by those considered to be less able than their peers.
As students use computers as tools to learn, they also exercise their thinking by learning how to ask the right questions, pursue research on the Internet, and evaluate their sources of information.

I’m going to post some of my own questions about REST design from time to time in this weblog, as I think of them, and I’ll look forward to hearing from people who have already dealt with or at least thought about these problems on their own.
[Update: fifth and final question added] I’ve been thinking a bit about REST recently while working on a new data-oriented application.
REST in its now-broadened meaning is easy to explain: pieces of data (likely XML-encoded) sit out there on the web, and you manipulate them using HTTP’s GET, PUT, and DELETE methods (practically CRUD, except that the Create and Update parts are combined into PUT).
