The song was included as a track on the March 1970 Psychedelic Shack album, which featured the title track as its only single.
Starr's version of "War" was a #1 hit on the Billboard Pop Singles chart in 1970, and is not only the most successful and well-known record of his career, but is also one of the most popular protest songs ever recorded.
"War" was covered by Frankie Goes To Hollywood on the 12-inch of their 1984 hit single "Two Tribes", and was included on the album Welcome To The Pleasuredome.

If an anti-war song is in demand, then they'll play it, but don't expect Clear Channel to start chanting anti-war on the air outside the song.
And I'm sure Clear Channel's classic rockers are probably playing old anti-war songs by the Beatles, Crosby Stills and Nash, and such, primarily because the songs are so entrenched and worn-in that, to an extent, their meaning has been lost, or even just misunderstood.

i was scouting for folks' thoughts on this song b/c the sense of the song changed on me tonight, instead of them singing a narrative as themselves or of folks their age, the song shifted and came across as if Canada itself were speaking.
i think i almost cried the first time i heard that song, which is refreshing in comparison to the normal free-wheeling nature of most of moxy fruvous' songs.
