DVD Verdict Review - Tommy: Superbit Edition
With the release of "Tommy," The Who demonstrated that they were on the scene for good and it's a well-established fact that they perfected music in 1971 with the release of their album "Who's Next." I will not argue about this.
This excess manages to faithfully capture the dark themes of "Tommy" without destroying the music that took the album to greatness.
Tommy is indicative of the era of experimental filmmaking, falling into similar company with films like Brian de Palma's polarizing Phantom of the Paradise or The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

 Tommy by Who CD
Tommy is a sensational album filled with best rock tunes ever written.
As far as the music, and the chords go however - this album is beyond brilliant.
The definitive rock opera, TOMMY liberated the Who from a "singles band" stigma, marking them as a substantial artistic force.

Tommy (1969 Original Concept Album)~ The Who
I've heard that The Who's original album makes some of the more esoteric aspects of the Tommy story a little clearer.
His mother (Ann-Margaret) and step-father try all kinds of weird cures as Tommy enters what should be his adulthood, including a visit to the holy rollers at a church that worships Marilyn Monroe and a special session with "The Acid Queen" (Tina Turner).

The Who - Tommy - Geffen / Universal - SACD
It is little known that The Who were, before the release of Tommy, in dire financial straits, and that Tommy was the make-or-break album for them.
It would be superfluous to herald the greatness of the music of Tommy yet again, so we will concentrate mostly on the sound quality and judgements used for the remaster/remix of the SACD.
Disc 2 is of interest in that we hear studio banter between the boys, alternative outtakes sans vocals, and the genesis of these great songs taking shape.
