The Beatles (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The White Album is the Beatles' best-selling album at 19-times platinum and the eighth-best-selling album of all time in the United States.
The Beatles is a double album, released by the Beatles in 1968.
The album was produced and orchestrated by George Martin, and was the first album released by Apple Records, and the only original double album released by the Beatles.

The Abridged White Album? - Turn Me On, Dead Man
The White Album is often cited as the beginning of the end for the Beatles.
Whatever problems the Beatles were having during the recording of the White Album, the result was astounding.
George Martin was not in favor of releasing the White Album as a double album, arguing that the Beatles should be more selective.

The White Stripes (album) - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch
The White Stripes is the self-titled debut album by American rock band The White Stripes, released in 1999 (see 1999 in music).
#*The lyrics for this song are often disputed among fans of the White Stripes.
The break in the middle of the song about "John the Revelator" is from "John the Revelator" by Son House.

 The White Album
The White Album was not released in mono in the US.
This album marked the first on the then newly formed Apple label, which had made its first appearance as a 45 three months earlier on August 30, 1968 with the Hey Jude/Revolution single, both of which were recorded during the White Album sessions.
Over the course of the White Album sessions, many different recordings of this song were made in several different styles.

 Phish.Net FAQ: The White Album
Throughout 1996, there was a shift/movement to call the collection The White Tape rather than The White Album, partly because it was and always has been in fact a tape and not an album; and also because there was increasing confusion with 10/31/94 II, during which Phish covered the Beatles' White Album in its entirety.
Title dispute: There is no official name, though phans have referred to it (them) as The White Album since at least 1988 (in allusion to the officially unnamed album by the Beatles).
The creative freedom of that first White Album, the playfulness of Junta, the sound quality of Hoist and the conciseness of Hoist -- someday, there's an album like that [combined].

 Beatles, The: The White Album
The White Album was made at a very particular time in the Beatles' career.
This was basically the reason why the White Album had to be a double album.
I once read somewhere that the White Album was "as epic as a symphony and at the same time as comforting as a folk tune," and I think that sentence alone defines the White Album.

 VH1.com : Barry White : Biography
White left after fulfilling his contract with two more album releases, Love Unlimited Orchestra's My Musical Bouquet and his own I Love to Sing the Songs I Sing.
White's career took him from the ghetto to international success with 106 gold and 41 platinum albums, 20 gold and ten platinum singles, with worldwide sales in excess of 100 million.
White wrote "Walkin' in the Rain (With the One I Love)" with lyrics that were inspired by conversations with one of the singers, Glodean James (who would later become White's second wife).

The White Album Reviews - Arizona - Hippyland
But this album is obviously the sound of a band no longer on the same wavelength, so you basically have Lennon songs, McCartney songs, and the occasional Harrison and Ringo song.
It is impossible to appreciate this album if you don't listen to all of it, and often times the brillance of it doesn't really sink in until you've listened to it more than once (as was my case).
(The album's song "Helter Skelter" is heralded by many as the world's first heavy metal song and puts many current hard-core groups to shame.) The lyrics of the songs are, at varied times, beautiful, simple, and cryptic.

 A Single-LP White Album?
Singles were often issued contemporary to the album but containing none of the album's songs.
I also sort of considered the film songs to be separate from the "album tracks." The group seemed to regard their album stuff seriously but the film as a throwaway...at least until they saw it.
No songs dropped from the double album were considered for the single album.

 White Gold
For some, particularly fans of the seamless Pepper, this makes for a frustratingly scattershot record, but for other listeners, the White Album is a singularly gripping musical experience.
Then again, the White Album needs to spread out, it needs to have its loose ends and detours, because what is interesting about the album is its sprawl.
Here they recorded demos of virtually all of the songs that would appear on The Beatles (aka the "White Album"), and some unreleased songs.

The Beatles: White Album (1968) Music Reviews - Kansas - Hippyland
This was also the Beatles first album to be released on the Apple Records label.
The album's title is a little misleading as well.
Revolution 9 is the most bizarre track on the album, and probably the most bizarre track of the Beatles catalogue, no doubt.

Jeff White - The White Album
White is a talented singer and guitar player, and his version of The White Album has an unexpectedly traditional and old-timey flavor, given that White currently plays with reigning country music king Vince Gill and is an alumnus of Alison Krauss and Union Station.
Of special note on The White Album is Vince Gill's return to bluegrass music.
This may not be the magnum opus that the Beatles' White Album was, but Jeff White has assembled a powerhouse cast to put a lot of great music in one place.

 The White Stripes: Album Reviews
Jack White is full of charisma, his vocals even occasionally reminiscent of a young Robert Plant, and is a talented guitarist and writes all the songs.
Compared to their later records, their debut album is extremely primitive even by their standards.
It’s also the first album the group made in the limelight, with news stories on Jack White’s antics, including an assault on the Von Bondies’ singer, a relationship with Renee Zellwegger and a career revival of Loretta Lynn, as well as the inevitable speculation about the relationship between Jake and Meg.

 The Off-White Album MetaFilter
Should the Beatles have released the White Album as a single album?
The White Album as a complete work captured a moment in time, a moment in the career of the Beatles, and a moment in the continuum of pop music.
Actually, I would say that the best possible Beatles album would be one where they played their songs in the style of Metallica.

BBC NEWS Entertainment Music EMI blocks Beatles album remix
DJ Danger Mouse created The Grey Album using Jay-Z's vocals and beats made by sampling music on The White Album.
A DJ who has remixed The Beatles' White Album and rapper Jay-Z's Black Album to make The Grey Album has been ordered by record label EMI to stop it being sold.
When the album was being promoted, DJ Danger Mouse - real name Brian Burton - boasted that all the music on The Grey Album could be traced back to The Beatles' 1968 classic.

 Amazon.co.uk: Music: White Album
The White Album was meant to be the record that brought the Beatles back to earth after three years of studio experimentation.
George Martin was right when he suggested that they should have made a single album with all the best songs from this album instead of the double album of mish-mash you see before you.
It sounds like all the out-takes from the previous three albums were gathered together and stuck on one double album.

Music Forum - The White Album
10-03-2003 05:36 PM " White album " is one of my favourite albums of The Beatles.
Of course, it can't be repeated enough that all their albums are really good and saying one is better than the others is in no way a denigration of other albums.
Those are exactly my problems with the White Album.

 Notherby's :: The White Album
Lewis Black's "The White Album" is absolutely hilarious and shows the promise of a great comedian, as we would see him grow with his other albums, "The End of the Universe" and "Rules of Enragement." I really hope that he puts out more albums and continues with his well-crafted act.
From beginning to end, 'The White Album' is flat-out hilarious.
The "horse/college" joke is one of my favorites on the album.

Various Artists: The Blues White Album - PopMatters Music Review
After listening to the album, what you ultimately realize, ironically, is what a great blues band the Beatles really were at times.
After all, The White Album was the most blues-tinged album in the Beatles' catalog, so why not put out an album that re-explores that blues influence?
Justifiably, there are five John Lennon songs on The Blues White Album.

The Beatles (White Album) - Disc 1
The Beatles may not be the best Beatles album (for many it is), but it certainly is the most captivating one of the lot.
The album, that originally was to be titled "A Doll's House" and was the first one to be published by Apple, became an incredible success and sold over 2 million copies during the first week in the U.S.A. George Martin would have preferred to have less songs and a single terrific LP.
The White Album became the joint effort of four individuals, each one of them claiming the necessary playing time for their songs.

 White Whale Album Discography
Interestingly, the album was recorded in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, although Kaye was from Las Vegas.
The album also contained the original version of "Hallelujah," which would later be a hit for the group Sweathog.
Although it was the only single released by the group on White Whale, again the label saw fit to issue an album years later, when the label was strapped for cash.

Oh Look Out! Part 10-A The Beatles (The White Album) - Music History
This album, called simply "The Beatles," and known as the "White Album," is surely The Beatles' most disparate album.
What is so unique about this album, is that although it is The Beatles in all their brilliance, it is actually a recording by four solo artists in one band.
With the "White Album," it would be the last time The Beatles released both versions.

 White Stripes' album coming
Look for 13 original songs with the first single entitled "Blue Orchid." White composed (using marimbas, piano and acoustic guitar), produced and mixed the effort (which includes his trademark electric guitar riffing).
The collection was recorded in Detroit at White's Third Man Studios, mixed in Memphis at Ardent Studios and mastered in New York at Masterdisk.
Detroit's White Stripes will release the band's fifth album, entitled "Get Behind Me Satan" on Third Man/V2 Records June 7.

 The Beatles
It is the first Beatles album conceived as an album, not just a bunch of songs (their first released identically in the US and the UK), and the first rock album where the songs blend into each other with no breaks.
An album to be entitled Get Back was recorded months before Abbey Road as an experiment in filming the band "live in the studio," and then allowed to languish when no-one could agree on a finished product.
Third and last in this series of collectors' albums, it's easily the best: there are no poor-quality live tracks, almost no redundant alternate takes, and only a few inconsequential demos (mostly from the White Album period).

 The Colony : Clients
The band's debut album, 2001's 'Distorted Lullabies', also seemed wrenched from the guts of someone who, for all his youth, had weathered a lifetime of turmoil.
The band's second album, At Dawn, finds My Morning Jacket virtually unchanged on record, with more of the same high-quality writing: hauntingly beautiful melodies all drenched with that (by now) familiar reverb and featuring that unique and emotive voice.
From the new CD's sultry opening track, 'Love Throws A Line' to the soaring 'Top of the World,' the album is Patty's most poignant set of songs to date.

The result is an album that manages to sound big and overblown and homespun at the same time -- the effect is like trying to tone down big hair by wearing comfy flannel PJs.
If the store's record buyers find lyrics like that a threat, they should get out more.) Crow's dual messages of "boogie down" and "listen up" bump against each other awkwardly, and Crow's too self-absorbed and facile to make either one sing out.

The White Album. Motives. Cielodrive.com:: The Story of The Manson Family and Their Victims
This idea was reinforced when Capital Records released the self-titled Beatles White Album in November of 1968, which Manson connected to the book of Revelations.
Everything about the double LP had meaning to Charlie, even the cover, which he felt was the Beatles way of showing their allegiance to the white race.
This was a warning, the four angels were the Beatles, and this line talked about the upcoming race war, which Charlie dubbed "Helter Skelter", the war that would wipe out one third of mankind, the white race.

There's no "theme" and no real structure to this album, which goes to show that things like that aren't necessary if only the material is strong enough.

Very raw recording too, which is a bit of a relief after "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (which of course is a great record but in a different way).
