In 1932 Selmer partnered with the Italian guitarist (A musician who plays the guitar) and luthier (A craftsman who makes stringed instruments (as lutes or guitars or violins)) Mario Maccaferri to produce a line of acoustic guitar (Sound is not amplified by electrical means) s based on Maccaferri's unorthodox design.
At the time, musical instruments and accessories were primarily handmade, and professional musicians found it necessary to acquire skills allowing them to make their own accessories and repair and modify their own instruments.
They are currently the largest manufacturer of band and orchestral instruments in the United States.

 C.G. Conn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1915 all of Colonel Conn's holdings were bought by a group of investors led by Carl Dimond Greenleaf (b Wauseon OH 27 July 1876; d Elkhart 10 July 1959).
Conn claims to have introduced the first American-made saxophone in 1888, designed by the French-born E.A. Lefebre, well known soloist with both Patrick Gilmore's amd John Philip Sousa's bands.

The rule of thumb for describing Selmer guitars: the 1932-33 models with the D-hole are called Maccaferri, or Selmer Maccaferri, guitars, while the later oval-hole model is simply called a Selmer guitar.
In Europe before the War he was a guitarist and a luthier-visionary, and the designer of a particular guitar with noteworthy innovations, like his internal resonator, sealed tuning machines, and a metal-reinforced neck, among others.
Many people outside France are a bit bewildered about what is a "Maccaferri" and/or a "Selmer" guitar.

But in the 20`s, it was common practice for companies to order instruments through other major manufacturers and have their own name put on them, these were called "stencil instruments".
Alexandre left America and went back to France, and left the management to George M. Bundy who later became the President of H&A Selmer, Inc. Geo M. Bundy is what the model was called.

I most often play a Selmer Signature which is very even and nice tone on the higher registers.
I like the one that holds 10 reeds where they all lay on beveled glass and covered by a velvet top.
The tone of the two set ups has a different quality too.
