The Replacements - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Westerberg recorded a new album largely with session musicians, but was persuaded to release it as a Replacements album.
The title was typical Replacements: deliberately thumbing their nose at The Beatles' legacy, and putting out a subversive, brilliant, melodic punk record that might have been embraced by modern audiences.
While the move cost the Replacements appreciation of some hardcore fans, the album had a number of strong songs, mostly notably "Achin To Be" and "I'll Be You," which topped Billboard's Modern Rock chart.

Consequently, the next Replacements album, All Shook Down, was a solo Westerberg record in all but name.
The Replacements' first major-label album, Tim, was scheduled to be produced by Westerberg's idol, Alex Chilton, but the sessions fell through; the album was produced by former Ramone Tommy Erdelyi.
Recorded with a cast of session musicians as well as the band, All Shook Down was a stripped-down, largely acoustic affair that hinted at the turmoil within the band.

The Replacements' Bob Stinson's Death is Loss of Inspiration
Westerberg was a poetic punk with a record collection that ran from Kiss to Frank Sinatra to Hank Williams, and an appreciation for the craftsmanship of songwriting.
Crash Test Dummies, the Grammy-nominated folk-rockers from Winnipeg, recorded a Replacements tune on their debut album, and They Might Be Giants, an eclectic duo from Brooklyn, recorded a song about the Replacements as a tribute.
The Replacements reached their pinnacle with the 1985 album "Tim" on Sire Records, home of Talking Heads and Madonna.

The Replacements: Pleased to Meet Me ---Ink Blot Magazine
The Replacements began in 1979 as a punk/hardcore band taking a sloppier approach to what fellow Twin Cities rockers Hüsker Dü were trying to do.
If you ask Replacements fans which album they consider the band's best, almost all would say Let it Be or Tim.
It wasn't until 1983's Hootenanny that anyone cared, however, and that album's wider musical palette pointed the band towards Let It Be, wherein they became a proper rock band with roots and passion and songwriting skills on display.

 The Replacements
The Replacements should be remembered for more than that: they weren't just a sloppy good-time band who accidentally found ways to tap into our slurred, undefined feelings of inadequacy and insecurity.
The oddball rarities on disc two are less satisfying overall, but they do show us another side of the band.
Even for hardcore Replacements fans, the songs on disc one of All for Nothing, taken as a whole, make a good refresher course in why we love them so much.

 obsessions: the replacements
Inspired by a putatively healthy curiosity, the Replacements appropriate musical guises (junk country, junk synth pop, junk spoken word · even a junk Beatles interpolation) with a winning glee that, at least in part, compensates for the albums rough spots.
After the inevitable bust-up, the disbanded Replacements indulged their slightly impoverished solo visions.
Tommy Stinson's new band Bash and POP released a credible, mildly diverting effort.

 Bob Stinson
From their beginnings as a hard core band in 1979 until their demise in 1991, the Replacements managed to create some of the rawest and most uncompromising rock music of all-time.
The band earned a reputation for being one of the finest and most unpredictable live acts of 1980s indie scene by juxtaposing cathartic, punk- influenced shows with drunken tomfoolery.
The Replacements line-up before Bob's dismissal: Paul Westerberg- Vocals, Rhythm Guitar; Chris Mars- Drums; Tommy Stinson- Bass Guitar; Bob Stinson- Lead Guitar.

St. James Encyclopedia of Pop Culture: The Replacements
The Replacements pushed aside the purists, who regarded punk as a self-contained musical form closed to any outside influences.
Neither musically mainstream nor punk, Westerberg sang in 1987 that the band had "One foot in the door / The other one in the gutter." The group that could not find their niche disbanded in 1991, but became a model for the guitar-pop bands that proliferated in the mid-1990s, when the alternative became the mainstream.
A Minneapolis punk quartet that formed in 1979, the Replacements gained quick notoriety for their inebriated, freewheeling live performances.

Preceded by a number of pop tunes from, predominantly, the Seventies and Eighties, we find ten tracks produced by Debney- ranging from the aggressive The Dallas Game (6) to the surprisingly sentimental Falco (7).
Fittingly, his score for this film maintains the cheesy appeal of the film and there is little to no reason for one to bother with this release.
While Debney's skills as a composer can hardly be doubted with scores like Cutthroat Island to his credit, it is difficult to reconcile works such as The Replacements with his obvious abilities.
