Few albums were as eagerly anticipated as The Fat of the Land, the Prodigy's long-awaited follow-up to Music for the Jilted Generation.
The Fat of the Land was touted as the album that would bring electronica/techno to a wide American audience; in Britain, the group already had a staggeringly large following that was breathlessly awaiting the album.

Amazon.co.uk: The Fat of the Land: Music
Fat Of The Land, however, showed a very different side to The Prodigy; the exaggerated punk pastiche of "Firestarter" and "Breathe", with vocals provided by the band's cartoon Johnny Rotten, Keith Flint, proved that The Prodigy were, at heart, showmen.
'The Fat Of The Land' is dance act The Prodigy's third studio album, and the follow up to 'Music For The Jilted Generation'.
Fat was as influenced by American punk as it was by any form of dance music--demonstrated with a furious cover of L7's "Fuel My Fire"--and such a destructive, passionate fusion saw The Prodigy topping festival bills all over the world.

Amazon.com: The Fat of the Land: Music
The Fat Of The Land boasts ten tracks of fast-paced, hyper, adrenaline-fuelled anthems; a mish mash of Techno, Heavy Metal, Dance and Electronica.
In fact, the dark aggression of The Fat of the Land bears closer resemblance to both rap and punk than the hedonism of techno.
An album even the technophobic couldn't ignore, The Fat of the Land made Prodigy one of the first U.K. rave acts to infiltrate pop culture.

Prodigy: Fat Of The Land ---Ink Blot Magazine
It was Madonna, a longtime fan of the group's work, and her label Maverick Records that signed Prodigy and opened up the path for them to become the worldwide poster children for dance and rave culture.
This album was as much about Liam Howlett's reshaping the sound of Prodigy as it was about telling the world to lick his big hanging brass ones.
Thankfully, in doing so, Howlett, his eccentric rap squad, and various guests made a record that hugs the gutter and convinces everyone to pass out there with them after they've raved the night away.

Prodigy: Fat of the Land: Pitchfork Review
Despite an effort to mix-and-match musical styles (which I applaud), "Serial Thrilla," an attempted crossover hybrid of punk rock and dance music, feels forced, generic and a little weak.
Neither as fresh as Music for the Jilted Generation, nor as camp as The Experience, Fat of the Land offers some interesting sounds (the product of the prodigious Liam Howlett) and a decent variety of them.
The tune that makes buying the whole shabang legit, though, is "Climbatize." A solid, kick-ass instrumental superstar, it's the best sounding track by far, clicking on levels of rhythm and tone found nowhere else on the release.
