The Cars in Musician: ca 1982
Although the Cars scraped at the limits of the forms on side two of the first album, it wasn't until Candy-C that Ocasek's pop instincts were fully sublimated by the band's modernistic musical vocabulary.
Panorama, the third album, extended the band's arsenal of acoustic curiosities by lavishing textural detail onto each track, so that every song was awash in burbling guitars and wooshing synthesizers.
The Fender guitars he used on the album were mostly the Telecaster and the Lead II.

CANOE -- JAM! Music - Pop Encyclopedia - Vannelli, Gino
The album didn't produce a single and languished in unattended fashion.
The album spawned four hit singles including the title track and put Vannelli at the top of the charts and the cover of magazines.
As a celebration of this rare occasion a live album was recorded at Le Spectrum in Montreal on November 18, 1990 and released as 'Live In Montreal' in 1992.

The album was released in 1997 and is called "Troublizing".
When this album was released, it was meant to be a new beginning for Ric Ocasek musically with a media blitz on radio programs including "Rockline" (7/22/91) where Ric answered listener's question on the radio and had high hopes for the album's success.
The album cover is a touched up copy of one of the pictures of Ric from the "Door To Door" cover with the artwork done by his wife, Paulina.

This album was basically both their commercial zenith and swan song, and the "new wave" that the Cars helped jumpstart was approaching its end in the mid-80s.

This was also a breakthrough year for the Cars in music videos as they went on to release some of the most creative image to correspond with their newest collection of hits.
In the height of the 80's, The Cars' most successful album, "Heartbeat City", was released.
Both songs resurfaced again on the Cars' Anthology in 1995, along with the other hits from this and the rest of their albums.

The album is a must in any record collection.
Fast Cars were a Manchester punk band from the late '70's who were inspired - as their name clearly indicates - by the Buzzcocks.
CD Detour Records Although the Fast Cars were a great band and recorded this great material during the height of the power-pop/punk explosion in the UK, the band never hit it big.

 Matthew Sweet Biography
Girlfriend, an album largely inspired by the dissolution of his marriage, was the first album Sweet recorded with a live band, and its sound -- which was powered by Lloyd and Quine -- was considerably more immediate and raw than its predecessors.
His third album, Girlfriend (Zoo, 1992), was a radical change of style, showcasing stunning lead guitar playing from Richard Lloyd and Robert Quine (both from the original 70s New York punk scene, and two of the best guitarists in rock and roll history), and more importantly, a newfound confidence that made his pop songs sparkle.
The album failed to make any impact, and AandM dropped Sweet as he was working on his third album in 1990.

This is the fifth Cars album; it should have a different sound than the fourth record.
Just as they were when they heard the first album.
On the one hand, the Cars' songwriter, Rio Ocasek, wrote songs that were as self-conscious, alienated and emotionally distanced as anything washed ashore by rock's new wave.

 Album Review: Cars Collection
In their prime - from 1978 to 1981 - they were the Cadillacs of radio music.
Sure, they were horrible live, but their songs were both seductive and subversive, and this two-disk anthology is a reminder of just how good they were.
From 1978's "Just What I Needed" to 1985's "Why Can't I Have You?," the eerily similar vocals of Ocasek and bassist Benjamin Orr insinuated their way into our musical vocabulary, and the 40 songs here will remind you of just how many great pop songs they released.

 The Cars
On most good synth-pop albums, the production -is- the album, putting the listener in awe not by the pure genius of the songwriting, but by the dazzling, clear, full studio sound.
The first two albums are a wonderfully catchy re-working of the early sixties sound.
A terrific, fun album - it's true that there's not much to it besides the radio hits, but that's not really a problem when the radio hits take up 2/3 of the album.

CREEM ONLINE: Ric Ocasek — Nexterday
Despite their platinum albums, numerous hit singles, and immense MTV presence, the pop/new wave Cars were sometimes criticized for being a bit mechanical –"clipped and distant," said one critic.
When the band broke up in 1987, Ocasek recorded several solo albums and spent a lot of time producing bands such as Bad Religion, Guided by Voices, Hole and Weezer.
Unlike the superstar band he fronted and served as chief songwriter for, "Nexterday" shows the huge range of influences that made him special.

Buzzcocks : Fast Cars - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Unfortunately, at only eight songs total and around 25 minutes in length, the album is too brief (it's unlikely this is a complete performance).
Music as exciting as this transcends any packaging problems, though, and even after 25 years in the ground, Fast Cars is still a living, breathing, pogo-inducing document from one of the most important bands of the original punk era.
Surprisingly, the quality of the recordings is quite good, though the editing of the tracks is often choppy and jarring.

 Column: The Cars
Now, Ocasek has released his first solo album since 1993, a welcome return to form with a new guitar foundation, which may put The Cars' farewell _Door To Door_ album and Easton's reissued _Change No Change_ record -- both excellent and long overlooked -- in a new light as well.
The first ten tunes of this welcome reissue are the original album _Change No Change_, a stunning demonstration of Easton's encyclopedic command over every style of pop of the 60s and 70s, diverse, creative, and streamlined.
_Door To Door_ is ultimate Cars album in more ways than one, a deep, brilliant modern rock record ready for rediscovery ten years after its release.

Art Lande : World Without Cars - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Pianist Art Lande, fairly well known from a series of albums on ECM, here teams with reed player Mark Miller for an album of generally short, pastoral pieces that tend to have a bit more of an academic than jazz feeling.
Lande's style seems perched midway between Bill Evans and early 20th century impressionism (particularly Debussy), but, while his playing is almost always tonal, he is reluctant to commit to actual melodies, leaving the listener a bit frustrated.
Here, the melodies are allowed to simply stand on their own and achieve a natural, almost rustic beauty.
