The Art of Noise - definition of The Art of Noise in Encyclopedia
The technological impetus for the Art of Noise was the advent of the Fairlight CMI sampler, an electronic musical instrument that Horn was reportedly among the first to purchase.
In early 2004, the Iris Light label released an Art of Noise tribute album, containing covers of various tracks, including a new version of "Beat Box" performed by J.J. Jeczalik under his Art of Silence moniker.
The band is considered to be among the pioneers of electronic music.

They are also sound art, rather than art with sound, since the origins of the sounds lie in audio recording techniques and an appreciation of reverberation in records ranging from surf music to reggae.
As much as sound art may attempt to distance itself from music, its point of origin is silence and listening.
This is never explicit, but the notion of the hidden noise, lurking in the grooves of a vinyl record, brought to life only by the sustained jab of a needle, is usually somewhere on the scene.

The rest of the long mini- album documents Art of Noise onstage in London, playing "Legs," "Paranoimia" and the ten- minute "Hammersmith to Tokyo and Back." The concert format has its obvious hazards for a painstaking group which is so reliant on the studio, but the results are more unsatisfying than disappointing.

It is, they also say, pure fact, pure fantasy, thirteen songs of various length, recorded in technicolour, the missing link between Art Of Noise 1983 and Art Of Noise 2034, and the sound of a group who use the studio as a time machine.
The album contained three songs that defined the early Art Of Noise sound - the antic fractured humour of 'Close (To The Edit)', the prototypical big beat of 'Beat Box' and the meditative might of 'Moments In Love'.

Theremin Vox - The Art of Noise
The Greeks themselves, with their musical theories calculated mathematically by Pythagoras and according to which only a few consonant intervals could be used, limited the field of music considerably, rendering harmony, of which they were unaware, impossible.
And so was born the concept of sound as a thing in itself, distinct and independent of life, and the result was music, a fantastic world superimposed on the real one, an inviolatable and sacred world.
The desire, search, and taste for a simultaneous union of different sounds, that is for the chord (complex sound), were gradually made manifest, passing from the consonant perfect chord with a few passing dissonances, to the complicated and persistent dissonances that characterize contemporary music.

After a decade of punk and emo courting the pop charts, this was a new breed.
On its three albums for Providence's Load Records-which is to noise punk what Sub Pop was to grunge-the band has built a howling catharsis out of short rhythmic and melodic patterns that can sound like a spaceship taking off or a baby monster playing with a malfunctioning electronic toy.
Historically, noise music has been narrow in sound and appeal, and the genre's biggest American names over the years-Swans, Live Skull, Unsane, Cop Shoot Cop-have been stiff and a bit humorless.

While the vernacular of many punk bands entrenches or repeats itself into apothegmatic irrelevance, Unwound has continued to explore its sound, rummaging constantly within the attic of noise, creating vital rackets that are reminiscent of other bands while grafting its own meaning and imprint on the caterwaul.
The listener wants the song to sprawl and stretch, to last and last.
With a concoction of stuttering beats and ascendant guitar that bottles bolts of tension, contrast, and imagination, Unwound has sculpted noise to encompass dramatic grooves and lyrics that evoke alienation and loneliness.

It was his contention that the process which reduced noises into musical harmonics had also robbed sound of its ability to arouse the emotions.

In Russolo's often quoted manifesto from 1913, l'arte di rumori, Russolo proposed an Art of Noise to break through the limiting canvas which cultivated 'pure sounds' had placed on music.
