Southern rap - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first rap group to put southern rap music on the map were the Geto Boys.
Aquemini, their third LP, was a groundbreaking album that redefined southern hip hop, and was able to successfully appeal to both the core audience and the mainstream audience.
In particular, Crunk Music (a popular offshoot of Southern Rap) has been criticized for its repetitive chants and its materialistic and sexually-profane content.

 RAP
Rap is a very powerful form of music and can be just as moving as any other form of music.
Rap began as dance music until Grandmaster Flash came out with the song titled "Its Like a Jungle" this was the first song that described conditions that were faced in urban areas.
Rap is the voice of a young nation and a relatively new form of music.

Dirty South - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dirty South is a style of rap music that popped up in the latter half of the 1990s and is based in southern cities such as Memphis, New Orleans, Atlanta, Miami, and Houston.
They and Outkast are said by the uninformed to be the best at this style of rap music; however, their socially-conscious lyrics are superior to Dirty South contemporaries like Master P's No Limit posse.
Modern Dirty South music is characterized by its bouncy, club-friendly beats and simplistic lyrics generally concerning flashy jewelry (referred to as bling bling), luxury automobiles, women (especially prostitutes and strippers), and occasionally gangster lyrics.

But in a time when major labels were running away from the controversy that gangsta rap caused and Dr. Dre, the father of the genre, was proclaiming it dead, Master P stayed on course, delivering album after album of unadulterated gangsta.

Wrestling Games Zone Forums - Southern Rap: my view on hip-hop
As I got older I listen more and realised, "Hey this music reflects my life." By that time I developed a love for it and started listen to rap in general.
I admit it, I do listen to a lot, a lot of southern rap, but that has been installed in me from the way I was raised.
Like Scarface's point rap (particularly southern rap) has gotten eathier too gangsta, or too materialistic, and people say that is what is destryoing the hip-hop culture.

InternetEd Reviews: Scarface- Mr. Scarface (Greatest Hits)
After releasing his latest rap work, The Fix, Scarface is back again with this generous greatest hits album.
Unfortunately, there are no tracks from The Fix album or from the Geto Boys on this greatest hits collection, although there is one new track by Scarface, titled “Love and Friendship.” Fans of this Southern rap veteran of 15 years will not be disappointed with Mr.
Anyway, if you’re looking for new Scarface music, there’s only one track that will suit your needs, but if you want to hear what this Southern rapper’s solo music sounds like, this is the place to start.

Rap music, which originated in the Bronx, is the only form of black American pop that doesn't have Southern roots.
In the last few years, such Southern rappers and producers as Jermaine Dupri, Master P., Timbaland, Nappy Roots and OutKast have crashed the Billboard charts with their off-kilter music.
"The rap music of the South doesn't have a monosyllabic sound," insists Mississippi-based cultural critic Charlie Braxton.

The Guide -- Like a Cool Breeze, Southern Rap Returns
The album lags some when Breeze’s musings begin to plod, which was actually the only flaw with Outkast’s "Aquemini," otherwise one of the best rap albums of the year.
It’s easy to get lulled into the Southern banter with other tracks, but Breeze proves what he’s made of on the hard-core stuff with this track.
Breeze deals with these issues on the album, contemplating his place in the rap hierarchy without doing so overbearingly.

 InternetEd Reviews: Scarface- The Fix
Scarface’s Southern grit and streetwise lyrics on The Fix will seem like a breath of fresh air to people who are weary of the second-rate rap records that are saturating the already crowded urban music scene.
Overall, The Fix is a bold, intelligent rap record that mixes classic scratchy RandB with modern urban beats and intense vocals.
Kicking things off is the title track “The Fix,” a gritty blues song, which is later topped by the musically complex but vocally addictive “In Cold Blood,” with its powerhouse rap.

Cunninlynguists & Supastition The A.V. Club
Supastition raps bitterly about listeners' stereotyping of Southern rap on "That Ain't Me," but like his like-minded peers in Cunninlynguists, his words would ring hollow if the rest of his album didn't so brilliantly subvert and upend narrow-minded conceptions of what hip-hop south of the Mason-Dixon line is all about.
Normally, 70-minute-plus run times on rap albums are attributable to a lack of quality control or an unwillingness to edit judiciously, but Chain Letters' super-sized length seems attributable to Supastition having a lot to say and a compelling way of saying it.
Cunninlynguists boasts one of Southern hip-hop's stupidest names, but it's nevertheless one of the region's smartest, most ambitious outfits, with a sound as big as Texas and a lyrical palette that stretches from heaven to hell.
