Sonata allegro form, or simply sonata form, is the most characteristic structure in multi-movement instrumental music of the Classical Period.
The increased availability of publications allowed the newly affluent to purchase not only sheet music and instructional manuals, but also music journals, which included reviews, criticisms, lists of recently published music, concert announcements, and sometimes printed music.
Each of these composers made significant contributions to the symphony, keyboard sonata, chamber music -- especially the string quartet -- and church music; in the hands of Mozart, opera reached an artistic level previously unseen.

Sonata form or sonata-allegro form is a musical form, a way of organising a work of music.
By requiring that harmony move with the themes, this formal plan imposed a form of discipline on composers, and also allowed audiences to feel where the music was by following the appearance of recognizable melodies.
Poetic terms, such as "rhapsody" and "recital" and "tone poem" entered music, and increasingly musicians felt that they should not take the repeats in symphonies because there was no point.

The same could be said, in music, for rondo, sonata-allegro, song form with trio etc. etc.
However, I disagree with the above point, because I have never seen any literature claiming that sonata-allegro form, rondo form, song form are inherently profound, whereas such claims or imputations are made in the way that fugues are discussed in various places ranging from concert programs and CD liner notes to books about music.
Ratz is referring to the "fundamental structure" (Shenkerian Ursatz) that undergirds all tonal music.

There will always be a market for classical music, simply not a large or extremely profitable one.
The major orchestras will have to look at recordings as a form of advertising for their live performances.

While there is a formula that can be applied, there was not a rigid, formal concept for the form.
It was named "Sonata Allegro," because the final Allegro movement of a Sonata was most often created in this form.

The pitches and form of Tonal music are organized hierarchically, all pitches deriving their importance from their relationship to a tonic key, and secondary, "feminine", themes in other keys are brought back to the tonic in a recapitulation of the primary, "masculine", theme.
Susan McClary connects this specifically in the sonata-allegro form to the feminist hierarchy of gender (see above) in her book Feminine Endings.
