Son House - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Son House recorded for Paramount Records in 1930 and for Alan Lomax from the Library of Congress in 1941 and 1942.
The music of Son House, in contrast to that of, say, Blind Lemon Jefferson, was emphatically a dance music, meant to be heard in the noisy atmosphere of a barrelhouse or other dance hall.
Son's music is the centre of the blues experience and when he performs it is a corporate thing, audience and singer become as one.

Few listening experiences in the blues are as intense as hearing one of Son House's original 1930s recordings for the Paramount label.
As the band laid down long and loose (some tracks went on for over six minutes) versions of their favorite numbers, all that was missing was the guitars being plugged in and a drummer's back beat and you were getting a glimpse of the future of the music.
House did some tunes solo, as Lomax asked him to do, but also cut a session backed by a rocking little string band.

Son House - Reviews on RateItAll
House's song ("Death Song" or a title like that) has one of the most terrific, ragged vocals ever.
House, who quit music in the early 1930s, was rediscovered thirty years later during the folk music thrust of the 60s, and demonstrated that he was still The Real Deal.
I only know of Son House through reputation (inspiration to R.Johnson) and one pretty fantastic song from a "Legends of the Blues" comp CD that Columbia put out several years ago.

The structure is derived from typical action-landscapes that develop in a house: a fabric of larger scale bodily movements in a corridor or room, together with smaller scale movements around a sink or a drawer.
A sound work, made by composer Edwin van der Heide, is continuously generating new sound patterns activated by sensors picking up actual movements of visitors.
This carefully choreographed set of movements of bodies, limbs and hands are inscribed on paper bands as cuts (an uncut area corresponds with the bodily movement, a first cut through the middle corresponds with limbs, and finer cuts correspond with movements of the hands and feet).
