Soleares - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Soleares", or "soleá" is one of the most basic forms of Flamenco music, probably originated around Cádiz in Andalusia, the most southern region of Spain.

The soleares has a part for a singer and he's acompanied by a guitarist and some people clapping their hands or beating a case.
The singer decides how the guitarist must play the song because he wants to put his emotions in the music and the guitarist must acompany him as good as possible.
Probably there will not be 2 singers that can sing the same soleares.

The soleares is also considered cante jondo ("deep" song): of a serious nature in song, guitar, and dance.
The soleares is considered, both in song and in dance, to be the central figure around which most of Flamenco revolves.
The Soleares also often deals with anguish, poverty and death, but unlike a more serious song, the siguiriya, which carries these emotions to the brink of experience, the Soléa couches them in melody, wit, irony and laughter.

They are the Bularias, the Alegrias, the Sevillanas, the Fandango and the Soleares.
Thus, in the case of the Soleares, the singer interprets the music of the guitarist as he can.
Then the Soleares becomes the performers own swan song, their own nostalgic longing for the past.

Fiesta Pavilion: Glossary Of Flamenco Terms
Soleá or Soleares -- a song and dance form which is often referred to as the "mother of flamenco" because other important forms (such as alegrias and bulerias) derive from it.
The main characteristics of this flamenco style are the richness of its guitar accompaniment, the intricacy of the dance, the demands of its difficult rhythm and the lively sound.
Polo -- a form of flamenco song and dance which derives from the Soleares family.

Escobilla is a section of dance in the middle of alegrías, soleares or seguiriyas, in which the dancer improvises around a repetitious musical phrase.
Escobilla can mean a section of dance in alegrías or soleares, in which the dancer improvises around a repetitious musical phrase.
This section is like a composition where the dancer composes music with continuous footwork to the repetitious rhthym of the guitar (for example in palos such as alegrías or soleares).

It is traditionally accompanied in the key of E Phrygian mode, but in some cases in A Phrygian mode (sometimes guitarists refer to the latter as Solea por Bulerias, but the distinction is actually in the letras of the cante).
Like the Soleares, the Alegrias dance often includes a taconeo section (which can be without guitar accompaniment, as with Carmen Amaya's version).
Sometimes, for fun, guitarists will solo in F# or B Phrygian as well.

The tonás are the oldest and most austere songs, and are unaccompanied by a guitar ; the siguiriyas are the most tragic cantes, while the soleares often deal with gentler emotions, between sorrow and melancholy.
I have identified a total of 99 forms of those higher songs, the tonás, siguiriyas and soleares, to which one more is being added by Ramón Soler Diáz.
This is the case of siguiriyas and soleares created by two non-Gypsies, Silverio Franconetti and Aurelio de Cádiz, which are often sung by Gypsies in Jerez and in Cadiz, because they find that those songs meet their requirements and have adopted them.

Central themes to this form include sorrow, cruelty of fate, setbacks and the pain of love, thus requiring an enormous amount of emotional involvement.
This, of course, is a poetic allusion, more likely referring to the role that the soleares play in flamenco - there is no doubt that it is the central figure, the matriarch, around which all of the flamenco revolves - than to any belief that the soleares has given birth to flamenco.

Within that context, however, there are many variations; the following is meant to give basic guideposts for your own journey into the beauty and profundity of this complex art.
Soleares has a compas that can be expressed consistently in phrases 12 counts long; the actual metric expression can depend on the emphasis to be placed on the musical phrase.
The most fundamental cycle of the Soleares family consists of four measures of 3/4 time, with the "resolution" phrase on counts 10-12, with accentuation on the first count of each measure.

 History of Flamenco
Flamenco is a tripartite art, involving singing, dance and the guitar simultaneously - as well as rhytmic punctuation (by hand-claps and other methods) that is considered an art form in its own right.
They are defined by characteristic melodic, rhytmic, and harmonic structures; each has a characteristic mood and many are regional variants of essentially similar forms.
There are hundreds of different types of pieces within flamenco, which have generic names such as seguiriyas, soleares, alegrías, malagueñas, fandangos, zapateado, rondeña, etc.
