Soilwork - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Soilwork is a Swedish melodic death metal band formed in late 1995, originally under the name of Inferior Breed.
Their unique sound is a fusion of the classic Gothenburg metal sound with power-groove riffs of late 1970s, early 1980s British and European metal.
Peter will now do music production for other bands.

SOILWORK caused a positive stir in the metal underground and were immediately signed to Listenable Records.
SOILWORK have been an early and masterful incarnation that has taken modernized metal to the next level, generating a new genre of prolific music and surpassing all expectations.
Their deal with Listenable Records ended and SOILWORK were bombarded with offers from various labels ultimately signing with Nuclear Blast Records.

I am writing the lyrics and doing some of the riffs but it is mostly Peter doing the music with Ola, the other guitarist, his uncle.

Soilwork - Satan Stole My Teddybear
Although Soilwork sticks to some tried'n'true methods of twin guitar, melodic and slightly thrashy metal with the usual raspy shouts, there's a little extra spice to their music that has made this effort a major surprise.
Soilwork may stand as my favorite Swedish band over the past couple of years, now that they've released two fantastic records in a row.
They've proven that although they are working within a subgenre that is oversaturated, there is still room for a band who has the songwriting ability to make the music fresh and invigorating.

 Rough Edge: Soilwork CD Reviews
Soilwork draw comparisons to metal's melodic heyday with a sound that could easily be classified as a modern update to the likes of Judas Priest and Accept while still rooted in the death metal style.
Soilwork, hot on the heels of the success of "Natural Born Chaos," made quick work in the studio and managed to put out another eleven tracks of taut metal that push the boundaries of aggression and melody.
Whilst most melodic death metal sweeps the listener in with aggressive hooks, Soilwork are a bit more forceful (and traditional) in grabbing the listener by the throat with pounding rhythms, persistent urgency, melodic keyboard passages, and enticing guitar work.

SOILWORK "FIGURE NUMBER FIVE" --- THE MUSIC SYNDICATE
With their deal with Listenable Records now up, Soilwork were bombarded with offers from labels dying to get this talented young band on their rosters.
When Soilwork released Steelbath Suicide (Listenable Records) in 1998 (issued domestically in 2001 by Century Media), the immediacy and intensity of the music brought the band instant recognition from the European press, but the adulation came with the inevitable comparisons to some of their more well-known countrymen like In Flames, Arch Enemy and Dark Tranquillity.
With this release Soilwork explored more dynamic structures, which not only showed musical growth but also gave the band the necessary elements to start sculpting their own sound.

The reactions both from fans and the media on “Natural Born Chaos” was incredible, and soon after the release Soilwork toured with hypocrisy and Killswitch Engage in the US and Canada´, which was their first northamerican tour.
After that the very talented songwriting duo of Peter Wichers and Björn „Speed“ Strid knocked out a batch of new songs, and the band entered Studio Fredman (HammerFall, In Flames, Dimmu Borgir) to record their excellent “Natural Born Chaos” album.

Soilwork’s fifth album, Figure Number Five, cracked the Billboard Heatseekers chart when it debuted in May. And the band is just wrapping up a U.S tour with In Flames – with another tour of the states, perhaps as headliners, likely in the fall.
Soilwork signed to the bigger Nuclear Blast Records, which opened it up to a much wider prospective audience, honed and expanded its sound to set it apart from the rest of the Swedish power metal contingent, and spent more time on the road.
Prior to the release of its third album, A Predator’s Portrait, in 2001, Soilwork was still something of a serious hobby for its members.

The next album found the debut of the singing vocals that, at about the same time, found their way onto In Flames AND Dark Tranquility albums as well, but the music was still pretty damn good.
It has clean vocals, but they're placed well, and the same music that was not exactly the Gothenburg blueprint, but was undoubtedly Soilwork.
The opening track, "Rejection Role," is a damn good song, sounding like someting that would have come off their last album.

However, Soilwork have nothing to be ashamed of, as they churned out a great set of heavy tracks from their new album as well as from the critically acclaimed Natural Born Chaos and the rest of their discography, including a ripping version of their legendary tune "Chainheart Machine".
Lead singer Mikael Stanne is quite the frontman, as he ran all over the stage and even put himself practically into the inferno in front of the stage with the crowd, spitting out shards of brutal death screams as well as melodic emotional vocals.

With no less a figure than Devin Townsend working the desk in the studio, the band has conceived an album that is almost the perfect balance of melody and brutality, and guitarist Peter Wichers is quick to admit that their Canadian producer was a serious factor in helping achieve this.
Love it or hate it though, there’s no denying that Soilwork has made a killer with their latest album, and it surely won’t be the last we’ll hear from them.
As arguably Soilwork’s best album to date, Natural Born Chaos contains plenty of good stuff, but as Wichers has pointed out, it’s also a significantly different album to the previous three with a marked shift toward increased melody and a subtle undercurrent of groove.

SOILWORK may in fact be the most accomplished band in Sweden or all of Scandinavia for that matter, at creating masterful and memorable chorus lines.
The manifestion isn't too dramatic and certainly not approaching anything overly commericalized but long time listeners won't be able to shake the feeling that this may in fact be the last time SOILWORK resemble the SOILWORK they knew from the late 1990's.
This album is full of spit and polish melodic Aggro-Thrash (too call this Melodic Death Metal is completely inappropriate at this point).

But as a metal critic, I can only image that, had A Predator's Portrait been full of songs as devastating as the title track to The Chainheart Machine (the album's standout, and the band's finest four minutes so far), the record could well have been as mind-blowing and classic-status-ready as the aforementioned holy texts.
Soilwork's third album, A Predator's Portrait, proves this adage out… to a point.

The Swedish metal sextet Soilwork formed in early 1997, fusing the country's signature ultra-heavy death metal sound with the power-groove riffs of late-'70s, early-'80s British and European metal.
Their official debut album, Steelbath Suicide, was released in 1998, and wound up landing Soilwork a U.S. deal with Century Media.
Vocalist Bjorn "Speed" Strid, guitarists Peter Wiches and Ola Frenning, and drummer Henry Ranta were all veterans of the Swedish scene by the time they recorded their first demo, In Dreams We Fall Into the Eternal, in 1997; bassist Ola Flink became a permanent member afterwards, as did keyboardist Carlos Del Olmo Holmberg.
