Slayer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The band is working on their long-awaited new full-length album that may be released sometime in late 2005 or early 2006, according to Metal Underground.com.
Slayer were great fans of hardcore punk, influenced by the likes of Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys and The Misfits, and borrowed some of that music's emphasis on extremely fast tempos in many of their songs.
The band has also been accused of holding Nazi sympathies, primarily due to the misunderstanding of the lyrics of the song "Angel of Death" from the Reign in Blood album.

Bostaph rejoined the band for 1998's Diabolus in Musica.
Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, I think those are the bands that somewhat influenced the band as far as sound, image and all that stuff.
Metal Blade Records subsequently signed the band and released their first two albums, Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits (subsequent albums were released by Def Jam's Def American).

 Slayer Biography Page
Slayer became widely known for their energetic live shows, which were nearly constant during the late '80s; unfortunately these events became plagued by neo-Nazi skinheads who were drawn to the band's violent lyrics and Nazi dress, leading to ongoing problems at shows and a feud with the outspokenly anti-racist speed metal band Sepultura.
Slayer's latest CD, Diabolus Musica, was released in the spring of 1998 on Columbia Records.
Slayer's first album, Show No Mercy, was released in December of 1983 and was panned by many critics due to its juvenile Satanic imagery and recycled riffs, though its intense, frenetic drumming broke new ground in heavy metal.

 Slayer - Speed Metal/Death Metal
Slayer's influence can be found in the choice of classical music presented to young people, the riffs of over 100,000 metal bands, and the pirate radio stations in countries under collapsing democracy.
This album shows a clear lexicon of Slayer styles, but like the later albums from formative heavy metal bands, attempts to pattern in deliberate musical action what in youth had become too emotively uncontrolled music.
The bulk of the music as in previous Slayer albums is the adept riffing of Hanneman and King interlaced with the spacious but precise drumming of Dave Lombardo holding a quick perceptual framework over the changing narrative of the music.

 BBC - h2g2 - Slayer - the Band
BBC - h2g2 - Slayer - the Band
Reign In Blood was the band's first gold-selling album, and it helped boost the band's reputation as being one of the most energetic bands live on stage.
King was influenced by the band Venom, and Lombardo was into the punk scene that was dominant at the time.

 slayersaves.com - Slayer History
In 1996 Slayer decided to release a cover album of punk songs with a name of "Undisputed Attitude".
Slayer came back to the U.S. shores to start the "God Hates Us All" tour during which a December 2001 show's material was shot and to be included on the first ever Slayer DVD which was released in the July of 2003.
After just another little break, Slayer recorded and soon after released a new album called, "Seasons in the Abyss", one of the ultimate metal albums of all time.

 TrouserPress.com :: Slayer
Although the production is hardly pristine, Slayer's first two albums are unquestionably among the most threatening music of their time.
The high-concept '96 EP matches the Slayer album's TSOL cover medley with that band's original renditions of the same songs, "Abolish Government" and "Superficial Love."
Coinciding (fittingly enough) with the Gulf War, the band's first arena tour was documented on the 23-track Live: Decade of Aggression, originally released in an extremely heavy limited-edition metal case.

 purevolume™ Slayer Tribute Band
The Slayer band is just like a side project kind of thing so he's not always able to make practice and may one day have conflicting gigs and we are sure that he'll pick the other band over the Slayer band on that night.
True Slayer fans/musicians that can play any Slayer song (and play it great) that have the time and desire to be in a Slayer tribute band are not easy to find.
But in the meantime, I'm loving the shit out of playing Slayer songs with a drummer who can actually play the music the way it was written and at speeds that just keep my adrenalin pumping thru out the entire practice.

KNAC.COM - Headbangers - Slayer Live In Anaheim, CA
Slayer is a much better sounding band on the record.
SLAYER are one of main bands that helped inspire the Death/Black Metal scene and nowadays all they get for support acts is these "Nu-Metal" or "Hardcore" type of bands.
Slayer continues to be one band that always puts on a phenomenal show.

 Article: SLAYER'S KERRY KING
Those who dismiss the band’s music as Neanderthal pounding might be surprised at what they’d discover if they actually listened to Slayer.
Aside from the musical merits of Slayer, the aura that surrounds the band has spooked parents since their inception “at the dawn of time,” as King jokes.
Slayer is one of my favorite bands ever.

 Slayer
From a musical standpoint, one of the strongest songs on the album is "Seven Faces," which shows Slayer dipping into the more melodic areas of their repertoire.
Over the course of their last two studio albums, "Divine Intervention" and "Diabolous in Musica," Slayer seems to have had a mission.
You'd think that a band like Slayer - with their extreme brand of metal - would have a fairly short lifespan.

The band signed everything from the new record to guitars to bibles.
The band performed later that night at the Pageant, doing a 95 minute set of material covering every album the band has released.
The band, on tour promoting the new album "God Hates Us All", signed autographs for over 300+ people over a 2 hour period.

 Slayer Biography
In Slayer most of lyrics are written by Tom, but not the music.
Joey started a band Bloodcum with Tom's brother John, but the band didn't make it.
After that he was given a list of 9 songs of Slayer and 12 days time to learn them.

Slayer in Concert with American Head Charge and Chimaira (NY Rock)
From the cult-favorite album Reign in Blood to accusations of being a Nazi-loving band to trading insults with Sepultura to becoming the first metal band signed to Def Jam Records, for nearly twenty years Slayer have maintained a sea of diehard fans who love the band and the mayhem.
Still, it amused me when a guy in the audience spit at a member of the band, who spit back and taunted the guy, all while the band forged ahead with some Nine Inch Nails-ish/Slipknot-ish sounding music.
When the show finally resumed, however, the band proceeded to demolish everyone's eardrums with a mix of new songs and classic older ones.

Slayer is the band all other such heavy bands are measured against, defining not only a genre but an attitude.
A Slayer fan’s ultimate experience, Soundtrack To The Apocalypse includes tracks spanning every Slayer album since 1986, soundtrack cuts, Japan-only tracks, more than a dozen rarities, and a DVD of live performances spanning 20 years, all digitally remastered.
Disc 3 focuses on rarities, from the earliest known Slayer recordings (previously unreleased 1983 live tracks) to seminal tracks taken from the band’s garage rehearsals and even home demo recordings.

Looking Glass - October - Entertainment
All in all, this is an OK record, based only on the music factor.
Slayer has always been described as a thrash metal band.

 Slayer
Above it all, the band remains faithful to its fascination with violent, socially-skewed lyrics.
Songs like "Scrum" and "Death's Head" thunder with the red-hot brand of 'Slayer' emblazoned on their bellies, while "Love To Hate" is a complex cadre of bits stitched together featuring some prog-ish dual guitar figures to accompany King's manic soloing.
Not bad for a bunch of sarky outcasts who recorded their first album in a week with only $400 in their pockets.

RollingStone.com: Slayer : God Hates Slayer : News
The album is the band's first since 1998's Diabolus In Musica and the first in over fifteen years to not be produced by Rick Rubin.
As a rule the darkest wordsmith in a band of doomsayers, King opted for a more introspective approach to this record.
The band hooked up with Hyde last year, recording the song "Bloodline" for the soundtrack to the box office bomb Dracula 2000.

 CoC : Slayer : Interview
The band epitomized metal music in the 80s.
Slayer -- along with the likes of Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax -- were one of the four bands that carried metal into the 90s.

KNAC.COM - Reviews - Slayer Reign in Blood: Still Reigning
The second facet of the DVD is a 20+ minute interview/retrospective with the entire band entitled, “In Their Own Words.” In it the band addresses their history, beginning with the coming together of friends to create Slayer through to their current status as the reigning monoliths of metal.
Also included is ample backstage footage filmed before and leading up to this landmark concert, consisting of the band discussing the basics of the rig, the return of the mighty Dave Lombardo, the undying respect Slayer has for their fans and the rabid loyalty that their fans exhibit.
20 years into their career and Slayer have cemented yet another razor-carved cornerstone into the annals of metal history, reasserting their status as metal’s true overlords and proving once again that the band is nowhere near done redefining music and the way in which it is presented.

But Pantera wasn't nirvana, and the band broke apart over friction between Dimebag, the guitarist, and the band's even more flamboyant singer Phil Anselmo.
Pantera's hallmark was its chaotic, punkish style dubbed "thrash metal." And while bands like Metallica and Alice in Chains went the MTV route, Pantera endeared itself to its body-pierced fans by sticking to lyrics that cannot be printed here.
And in a recent MTV interview about recording the band's first album, Dimebag assured fans that nothing had changed.

Dead Skin Mask: The Ultimate Slayer Tribute Band
"I told myself a few years ago, after seeing a few tribute bands, that if I were to ever be in a tribute band that it would have to be a Slayer tribute band.
They have held true to themselves, to their music, to their fans and they deserve alot of credit and respect for that.
My goal as a musician in 'DEAD SKIN MASK' is, that if you were to attend one of our gigs and close your eyes and listen to me play, that you would swear it was Jeff or Kerry you were listening to.

Dallas Music Guide - Slayer interview (continued)
So when it comes to that, you want an energetic band that is going to psyche up the crowd, not only that you want them to sound great.
And others who dug the band and in turn are checking it out bring those new faces there; it’s completely surprising.
I mean like Kerry turned me onto Iron Maiden, and that’s when they were already working on a second album, so I was like “whoa”, and then you start listening to it.

 DEATH METAL ROCK MUSIC
A member of the Swedish Death Metal band band Dissection was imprisoned for desecrating 250 graves.
Other band members were called "Necro Butcher," "Dead," and "Hellhammer." One of the trademarks of Mayhem and other Norwegian Black Metal groups is the wearing of "corpsepaint," which is black and white makeup designed to create a morbid appearance.
In July 1995, three teenagers in California, who were members of a Death Metal band called Hatred and who were "fanatical Slayer fans," murdered 15-year-old Elyse Pahler as a Satanic sacrifice.

On their 1988 album, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, they sampled the heavy metal band Slayer, fusing two very different styles of music.) For Fairey, the crossing of those two genres symbolized the dissolution of boundaries, not just in music, but in all culture.)
You've got the dumbest guy and the smartest guy in the room singing your song." Fairey continued, "I want something that resonates and affects people on different levels, but connects with everyone." For this reason, most of the products that he designs for his Obey clothing line blur and break traditional cultural rules.
"We're always trying to flip stuff up." Fairey then revealed his "truth": "If Public Enemy can sample Slayer, I can do that [make hybrid products]." (For those not on top of late '80s music, Public Enemy is the archetype for political hip-hop.
