Sir Elton Hercules John, CBE (born March 25, 1947) is a rock music singer, songwriter, and pianist, is one of the most successful solo artists in music history.
Elton's self-titled second album was released in the spring of 1970, and started to sell well in the U.S., where it was released on the MCA's Uni subsidiary.
John was the dominant commercial force in the rock world in the 1970s, as evidenced by seven consecutive #1 records on the U.S. album charts and an endless string of top 40's, the longest streak ever (30 years), as well as several #1's, 2's, and top tens; all in the 1970's alone.

Well, it didn't ruin the album's credibility, but it did turn out to be a horrible film and the music in the movie is nowhere near as good on the album.
The Who's 1969 concept album "Tommy" set a standard for the genre that few albums like it could aspire to (Elton John's "Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy" is the only one that springs to mind).
Nothing on the album can top the originals.
