Technique was the fifth original album by New Order, released in 1989 (see 1989 in music).
Technique was the first New Order album to reach number one in the UK charts.
Partly recorded on the island of Ibiza, it incorporates balearic and acid house influences into the group's techno-rock sound.

Regret was, and is, a wonderful song, a real standout on the radio at the time of the album's release.
I enjoy listening to this album the whole way through, and with the order that they used to lay out the songs, you can have it on repeat and want to listen to it again and again.
The Cure's quintessential album, 1989's Distintegration, was followed by Wish, an album that signaled a break with the past sound.

Sadly enough, the second disc consists of the B-sides to these singles, and while some bands use singles' B-sides to showcase material that they felt wouldn't fit onto their albums musically, the songs here are clearly leftovers, and particularly rotted and decomposing ones at that.
Unless one of the later albums really makes my kneecaps explode with absolute glee (and pus) when I give them their own final listens, this is probably my choice for New Order's best studio album.
This album is an undeniable step up from Movement since the members of the band seem to have stopped their nightly Ian Curtis seances (complete with smores) in the recording studio and actually mapped out an identifiable sound, but some people go a little bit far and label it as New Order's all-time peak.

New Order during this time ('81-'83) was at its most inventive, and this disc certainly proves that.
I have adored this album of New Order's for over twenty years.
Although this album is magnificent in itself, it would have been even better if the singles and B-sides had been included, as well.

New Order released four studio albums in the first half of the 1980s, then in 1987, created an early career-capper with the unique retrospective SUBSTANCE.
That album's undoubted highpoint "Blue Monday" is featured on here & it still is a sound to behold because it indicates that New Order had at last found their niche in dramatic, techno-based pop.

First there was the rumour that New Order were going back to a rawer and darker sound, to their Joy Division roots, then that they were going back to more dance songs and it sounded like Technique.
However, some of you may have read my opinions about New Order's new single and album on the forum on NewOrderOnline.com (from which the Krafty pic is taken), and some of this post is taken from there.
Turn would have been the perfect ending of the album (which should have been opened by the title track), I'd have left this for the B side of Krafty.

Destroy: the album version of "Subculture", which is far and away the worst thing they've ever recorded.
I love the album but think Regret is one of their weaker songs!
you also need to destroy the last album which everyone loves but an album which is actually really rather awful.

As for New Order, they will no doubt release an album which will (unsurprisingly) sound like New Order.
I would much rather listen to U2's new LP rather than Kid A. If you listen to their 1997 offering "Pop", I think you'll find tracks such as "Mofo", or "Discotheque" would sound incredibly out of place on the new record, hence they have done something completely different.
New Order haven't broken course and surprised us with any radical tangents recently and the track from The Beach does not indicate there will be soon.
