Roy Harper - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Harper's spoken words can be heard on The Tea Party's 1995 album Edges of Twilight and he sings on the track "Time" from their 1996 album Alhambra.
Harper was forced under duress to drop it from future UK copies of the album, though it reappeared on a later CD reissue and remained on the US LP.
Roy Harper (born 12 June 1941), is a British singer-songwriter who specialises in uncompromising introspective lyrics and folk influenced compositions.

 Ectophiles' Guide - Roy Harper
Apart from the title track (which was new and inspired by a review of one of Roy's albums in a women's magazine), all the tracks on this album came from an unreleased 1977 album called Commercial Break.
The song was originally written for the...Descendants of Smith album, but was rejected by EMI as being uncommercial.
Overall the performances on this album are excellent, many being preferable to the original album versions, though the album lapses into a bit of psychedelic nonsense somewhere in the middle.

Who is Roy Harper, and why did he sing 'Have a Cigar'?
Roy Harper is also the subject of a Led Zeppelin song, "Hats Off to Roy Harper," from their third album.
Harper is much more a song-writer than a musician, in the same way Bob Dylan is. He's been recording since the late '60's and has released about 18 or so albums, including the duo effort with Page, "What Ever Happened to Jugula?" which also featured Gilmour.
Harper also helped out David Gilmour on his first solo album, helping to write and sing "Short and Sweet." He appears on Gilmour's live tour video.

Roy Harper : Lifemask - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
When the album was released in early 1973, it showed Harper refining the acoustic music he had perfected on 1971's Stormcock.
The former is a strong opener and added a touch of synthesizer to Harper's instrumental stable, while the latter was a political comment on apartheid in the guise of a touching love song.
However, despite its potential, the song's a bit boring and doesn't approach Harper's former or future epics in terms of listenability.

Science Friction Ltd. - December 2005
The ambitious release of a series of albums chronicling his performances live at the BBC reaffirmed his talent.
His debut album, The Sophisticated Beggar (1966), was recorded in primitive conditions, but contained the rudiments of the artist's later, highly personal, style.
The elder Harper should, however, be both flattered and proud.

 HATS OFF TO HARPER
Roy's relationship with Awareness Records began in 1985, beginning with the re-release of 'Born In Captivity', and continuing with the re-issue of many back catalogue albums as well as the new releases between 1988 to 1992.
Nick Harper has just released his first solo CD called 'Light at the End of the Kennel', and both Nick and Roy are working on new albums for release later on in '95, with Roy using the studio at home in Ireland to record an ambitious song-cycle based around the Seven Ages of Man.
During 1984 Roy was writing and recording with Jimmy Page, and the two of them played together at the Cambridge Folk Festival that year, resulting in the excellent studio album 'Whatever Happened To Jugula' (Beggars Banquet) and a resurgence of interest in Roy's work, with the album making it into the Top 20.

 Amazon.com: Stormcock [IMPORT]: Music
Roy's 1971 album Stormcock is underrated but every bit as classic (and more so in my opinion) as albums like Zoso, Who's Next, Dark Side of the Moon, and Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.
only four songs (long ones), but in those four songs are all the qualities for which one listens to roy harper: the intense vocals; the layering of voices; crazy, wonderful, and perfect (atypical/close/shocking) harmonies; that ringing guitar; the sheer poetry of the lyrics.
The final track, Me and My Woman, has multiple parts in which Roy displays his AMAZING singing and lyrics, is backed by an orchestra, and plays some sweet riffs on the acoustic guitar.

Roy Harper : Burn the World - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Harper's Burn the World consists of two versions of the title track, one studio, the other live (recorded at the Bloomsbury Theatre, London).
Energetic and driving (so much so that he breaks a string during the song), Harper's guitar work and vocals are superior to the studio take.
The live track, a solo performance that Roy terms the "more cultured" version, has an immediacy and vibrancy not found in the demo.

 Valentine by Roy Harper CD
Originally released on Valentine's Day 1974, VALENTINE is not exactly a collection of sweet love songs, unless you'd consider cuddling to tunes like "Male Chauvinist Pig Blues" and "Magic Woman (Liberation Shuffle)." On the other hand, this is probably Roy Harper's most straightforward and least oddball collection.
The songs are also a rather gentle and melodic bunch, with "I'll See You Again" and the tender "Forever" being particular highlights.
Harper's usual collection of heavy friends are present, including Ian Anderson, Keith Moon, Jimmy Page and David Bedford, all of them contributing well.
