 The Best of the Ronettes
I didn't have any of the Ronettes' records when their songs were on the charts, but I did hear their songs on the radio and they sounded much better than they do on this CD.
Rating 1/5 "The Best of the Ronettes" CD is the worst-sounding CD I've ever heard.
I have the original Stereo Ronettes album, and the songs "Baby, I Love You" and "I Wonder" sound really spectacular in stereo, all that orchestration is very detailed, while somewhat muted in the mono version.

 The Ronettes
The Ronettes weren't the most commercially successful girl group, but their music was some of the most groundbreaking in the field, thanks to their association with the legendary Wall of Sound producer Phil Spector.
The Ronettes caught their big break when they met Phil Spector, who saw in them talent he could mold to his specifications; he was already tiring of his association with the Crystals, substituting outside singer Darlene Love on several records credited to them.
With his attention consumed by Tina Turner in early 1966, Spector put the Ronettes on the back burner; one of his final sides with the group, the lovely "I Wish I Never Saw the Sunshine," was never even released.

The Ronettes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ronettes were an American girl group of the 1960s, best known for their work with producer Phil Spector.
After a hiatus in the middle of the 60s, the Ronettes (and Spector) re-emerged without much of a popular reaction; musical tastes had moved beyond the girl group sound, and the Ronettes were unable to maintain their relevance.
Ronnie Spector married Phil Spector in 1968, then launched a solo career after divorcing him in 1973 (see 1973 in music).

 The Ronettes
This song was a re-recording of a song that the original Ronettes had done for Spector in 1965.
Their LP, 'Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes featuring Veronica', could only reach number ninety six on the album chart.
Phil Spector had a clever practice of putting an instrumental on the 'B' side of his 45's, so as to keep the disc jockeys from "flipping" the record and taking attention from the 'A' side.

At heart, it's just one of dozens of sweet little teen love songs by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich, but Phil Spector's Technicolor production opens up the song; the layers of percussion, strings, and pianos take Spector's early arrangements for the Drifters to their logical conclusions.

Blogcritics.org: The Ronettes, "Be My Baby"
The presence of the Ronettes on that list made me think of how "Be My Baby" gets cited as an influence by everyone from Brian Wilson to the Ramones (their responses were, respectively, "Don't Worry Baby" and "the KKK Took My Baby Away").
That honor belongs IMSHO to their electric performance on The Big TNT Show (which absolutely demands video release; consider a lineup which not only included Ronnie, Estelle and Nedra, but the Lovin' Spoonful, the Byrds, Ray Charles and Ike and Tina at the peak of their powers).
Sure, you could come up with another equally acceptable 10 songs (I'd put Gaye's "Let's Get It On" in there, probably), but it's hard to deny the quality of these tunes.
