The International Institute Of Bassists Bass Lessons Online - Cliff Engel
Carter often outlines turnarounds (usually the last two measures of the song form) with root notes played on beats one and three and chromatic approach notes on beats two and four to heighten the underlying sense of tension and release and further propel the music forward.
Jazz bass virtuoso Ron Carter was born in 1937 near Detroit and raised in a musical family.
Carter's extensive use of left hand articulations including pull-off skips and glissandos have become an integral part of his signature sound.

CD Review of Ron Carter - Stardust on Blue Note @ jazzreview.com
But Carter knows these musicians’ interests and abilities, and music being music, he knows that musicians possess a never-ending curiosity about the intricacies and delights of harmonic sound and that music transcends boundaries, both mental and geographical.
Thankfully, Ron Carter continues to record, and as a result we can continue to enjoy a stream of his musical consciousness as Blue Note regularly releases his CD’s.
The perfect ending to the CD, the title track, spotlights Carter and Hanna as a duo as the bassist carries the melody, reminding us of their work in the 1970’s in The New York Jazz Quartet (with Frank Wess and Ben Riley).
