I think its because they misplaced the microphone or whatever, or the mixing of the sound wasnt all too good.
The record just makes it sound the way it sounds.

I don't think it would be strange at all- in fact I'm surprised that more drummers don't do it.

Anyway, I heard (and have seen quite a bit) that if you put tape on the cymbal you can get rid of some of the wash. Is this true?
You can use any kind of tape - maybe start with masking - if you use too much you will kill the sound of the cymbal completely - so be sparing.........
I just got a new 20" ride, which I like, except that the wash lasts too long.
