Jones Encyclopedia of Media & Technology Information
The rise in the 1920s of radio, electronic audio recording, and motion picture "talkies" began an era in which records and the machines that played them would begin to develop within a much more tangled web of audio technologies.
By enabling the recording, storage, and playback of video programming, DVRs promise to liberate viewers from the tyranny of network schedules and undermine the longstanding institutions and business models by which television and video content are delivered.

Record at Burns Station Sound - Burns, TN USA
Together, using "The Board" they recorded the gold album "Anka" which included the immensely popular "You're Having My Baby" which also went to #1 in the pop charts and sold over 3 million records.
Arriving next was Mac Davis, with whom Hall had who proceeded to record 4 gold albums at FAME, including "Texas In My Rear View Mirror" and "Hooked On Music" hit in both the country and pop circles.
Wicked Wilson Pickett joined in the success and became an international star with a powerful voice and Hall's timely production qualities on "Mustang Sally", "Hey Jude", "Funky Broadway", "Hey Joe" and "The Land of 1000 Dances." This classic version of " The Land of 1000 Dances" was included on the Forrest Gump soundtrack.

 TonyBongioviPowerStation
Tony conceived, created and operated Power Station Studios, the New York based mega-studio that remains the gold standard in the recording industry, and whose client list reads like a who's who of the music industry.
By the time his cousin John, now Jon, started pursuing music, Bongiovi was already a producer, having founded a New York studio called Power Station in 1977.
Bon Jovi sued to block his cousin from releasing an album of songs recorded at Power Station from 1980 to 1983.

 The Embarrassment in the Studio
Two tracks, "Podmen" and "Burning Love", were recorded in 8/88 at Big Dog Studio in Wichita.
[Recording dates: late 1982 [10/30/82?] at Crystal Clear in Dallas, with post-production in Dallas in 4/83 for the material that made it onto the album.
At the same time they recorded those six songs, they quickly ran through about a dozen more "live-in-the-studio" - five are on "Heyday", but again there are a few alternate versions which didn't get released - and a GREAT cover of "On Broadway" which really should have seen the light of day.

Gary Smith of Fort Apache on producing The Pixies
The vocals were recorded in the empty warehouse space outside our studio, and were most often done on three tracks: one close mike and a stereo pair in the corners of the space.
Fort Apache Studios was started in 1986 as the joint venture of four Boston engineers and producers: Joe Harvard, Paul Kolderie, Sean Slade and Jim Fitting.
While it is true that much of the material was recorded live, most of the lead and acoustic guitars were overdubs, as were all the percussion, vocals and backing vocals.

During one of the very first sessions I did at Fort Apache Studios in Cambridge, I stopped recording because the band was just too drunk to play.
Ideally, the record producer is responsible for getting the music on tape, on time, on budget, and on drugs.
You want to let the band and musicians show up on tape the way they are — as opposed to some kind of " auteur, " Phil Spector thing where you shape the sound yourself.

Governor Rick Perry - Texas Music Pioneers (A-M) / Texas Music History Tour
His recording of this song set an industry record for sales and became part of the first album in history to go gold.
And, his 1949 recording "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," became the first record in history to go platinum.
Only one other electric guitar had been recorded on jazz records when the first Christian-Goodman records were issued.

Bob Dylan: The Recording Sessions - Part 6
Many of the songs recorded during the month they spent in the studio were either done spontaneously (all the cover versions), or worked on from the basic riffs (Foot Of Pride).
Fortunately these recording sessions are well documented and the following listings must be as close as one can get to completeness without listening to each and every tape.
After having jammed in Rundown Studios, Santa Monica, with many musicians during 1982 and been around New York City in early 1983, Bob Dylan went into Power Station, the famous New York Studio, in April 1983 with a handful of skilled musicians:

 TapeOp Interview with Adam Lasus
I used to think that a 4-track demo was lo-fi and that when you record in a studio the point was to make it sound as good as possible.
I had a 4-track and eventually an 8-track in my Dad's house and was recording my own band and Jeff's band Baby Huey.
Chris Harford has done some of his records in a real straight-ahead recording style but on his new record there were drum machines and a cello, lap steel and Moog that we ran through all sorts of crazy pedals.

The Blue Tree - Blue News & Dates
Judging from the studio mixes, the sound has expanded significantly compared to the original demo CD "After the Fall" that was released in September 2000.
He did manage to return to Boston in the fall long enough for the band to record a three-song demo at Fort Apache, which marked the beginning of the new record.
"This record is about transition," Lawson says of the new Blue Tree album.

However, in England at the end of the 80's the most popular music was all computer/keyboard/programming based and I was more interested in recording live bands, as my musical preferences were more rock band orientated.
The studio's alumni included many well known/famous producers and engineers, so I was exposed to many influences, working with artists that had few budgetary limitations.
I was approached by Fort Apache Studios in 1997 to move to Boston and take over from Tim O'Heir as chief engineer.

While an exact location is yet to be chosen, "probably over the next year and a half, we're opening a full-scale production facility in Fort Lauderdale," Bongiovi says, noting that it will include a master studio, two smaller studios (each the size of the current facility), and six writing rooms/MIDI (digital recording) stations.
If you think the Power Station name sounds familiar, well, you'd be right; after cutting his teeth as a Motown engineer in the late '60s, Bongiovi moved over to New York City, where he opened the original Power Station a decade later (that facility is now Avatar Studios).
Although anyone with a balanced checkbook is welcome to record at Power Station (past bands have included locals like Two Story Double Wide, the Remnants, as well as my own band, Billy Boloby), only a handful of artists do so under the watchful eye and tuneful ear of Bongiovi.

The band (also from Italy) are reportedly about to enter into their recording studio for a long, experimental recording process.
Although recording began in February of this year at Studio Mega, a myriad set of problems meant that the recording process was far from smooth.
Meanwhile, the recordings of the band's upcoming full-length is completed for a scheduled release in January, with the first video from that album being shot sometime next month.

 Ray Gun issue 50 October 1, 1997
The week I arrive has been spent in rehearsals with her new backing band at Fort Apache, in anticipation of an upcoming party at the studio where Tanya will debut several songs from the new record.
Eight of the album's 12 tracks were co-produced by Donelly with Wally Gagel, with the remainder done by her manager, Gary Smith, a noted producer and owner of Fort Apache studios (and a damned nice guy, to boot).
In many ways, the new record is a family affair: Tanya recruited old friends like David Lovering (Pixies), David Narcizo (Throwing Muses), Stacy Jones (Letters to Cleo, Veruca Salt) and her husband, Dean Fisher (Juliana Hatfield), to play with her\- a fair sampling of the the talent that made late-'80s/early-'90s Beantown such a fomidable scene.

No studio ever has official openings for producers, anyhow, so Kolderie recommends finding a way to create your own position, whether it means recording yourself, your friends or your significant other, just to have a record under your belt.
Plus, recording skills can be learned in the real world or at school, but the ability to troubleshoot in the studio comes with practice.
Kolderie originally began as a musician, but switched to recording after doing sound for friends and recording his own band.

Some of these TS may have been the source for Rough Diamonds, the bootleg which includes all the Pixies sessions recorded in BBC studios (it does not include the Fort Apache demos from Session 1).
A usual practice of record companies, when alerted by Strange Fruit that a given session exists, is to block the SF's release, then license just one track from the BBC (which they are quite within their rights to do), and add it as a `bonus track' to a pre-planned compilation.

FOC Records has recently released the CD "Case of Empties", which includes some previously un-released studio recordings as well as some live material.
These additional recording sessions resulted in the July 1992 release of the full-length CD "Red" on FOC Records, which eventually reached #1 on WFNX's "Boston Rocks" local album chart in August of 1992.
After writing and recording a new batch of songs, as well as playing several high-profile shows with new member Fred at The Paradise Rock Club and Nightstage, the group disbanded in the summer of 1993.
