Rapture's second album Songs for the withering, sounds a awful lot like it's the lead singer from Opeth who's doing all the growling.

 Splendid E-zine reviews: The Rapture
Truth-in-advertising enthusiasts will be pleased to learn that "The Pop Song" is, in fact, the poppiest (as in catchiest) song on the album.
The band's highly developed sense of melody can be heard in disparate layers of their music, from the agile basslines to the catchy yet shrewish vocals.
The musical stream of consciousness that is The Rapture seems to flow from the wellspring of acts like PIL and Television -- bands that saw the burned out cavity left by first-wave punk bands and filled it with something pop-like.

Rapture (song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Rapture" is track number 8 from the 1980 album Autoamerican by Blondie.
Although "Rapture" wasn't the first successful hip-hop/rap song (the Sugarhill Gang's 1979 hit "Rapper's Delight" reached the top 40 on the US Hot 100 chart), it was the biggest rap hit for a number of years.

Deep Purple - Rapture of the Deep
As a song, this is a fairly uninteresting song that feels like one of those songs you often find in the middle of an album.
The song itself is a heavy, dark song with a slight oriental, Perfect Strangers-type feel to some of the riffs.
As the song gets heavier a couple of minutes into the song, I am reminded of that one epic track the band Gillan always included at the end of their albums in the 80's, "Life Goes On", "Demon Driver", "For Your Dreams", "On The Rocks" etc.

Rapture is an extraordinary album not because of the compositions, but because of the smoky, flexible and expressive voice of Anita Baker.
"Caught Up In The Rapture" is perhaps the most radio-friendly track on the album.
‘Rapture’ opens with ‘Sweet Love’, a signature song of hers, and Anita shows the versatility of her voice, from the low whispery notes (a lead Toni Braxton later followed) before taking the listener to a vocal climax by using her higher register which posses both power and beauty.

This was the first #1 hit song with a rap.
I think it could be argued that, not only was this the first rap in a song that had its own original music, it was also the last rap in a song that had its own original music.
Debbie Harry's rap in this was nothing special, but it was the first rap in a song that had its own original music.

I don't agree that inserting the song could be achieved without the probability of substantial disruption to the piece as it now stands, but without an actual suggested rewrite to examine, the whole discussion is for now theoretical.
My recent experience with this song was that the orchestra loved playing it and, taken at a brisk tempo, it was well received by the audiences.
RONALD ORENSTEIN: I agree that the dialogue before Wilfred's song makes the point, but the song (which I tried to deliver quite ferociously) hammers it home in a way that is, I think, most necessary considering that he is offstage for some time and otherwise does not sing until the Act I finale.

 Echoes by Rapture CD
Like millions of bands before them, the Rapture leaves a trail of its musical inspirations, but this isn't 1981, and ECHOES is very much of its own time.
Accordingly, ECHOES is a smorgasbord of funky, elastic basslines, percolating synthesizers, and angular guitar riffs, all artfully arranged for maximum bite.
A few songs obviously "mimic" the sound and style of The Cure, in a rather "cover band-like" way.

My favorite is still Erlend Oye's probably for two reasons: (1) Oye is incapable of doing anything wrong and (2) his version isn't so much of a remix since it pretty much keeps faithful to the original track.

When Rapture bassist Matt Safer scooped us a few months ago about the band's new songs, direction, etc., he made clear the band's bringing complete songs into the studio, not working on them on the fly.
Universal never should have re-released "House" as the album's lead single--a year after everyone playing it out--since the Rapture suddenly became "band with one awesome song" by default, no interest in pushing the album as a rock album.

As John and his five-piece band play the song, the footage follows Justin Timberlake, dressed like a young Elton, through a Dante's freak show of starstruck hangers-on and thrill-seekers backstage, a hard-boiled manager (played by Pee-wee Herman creator Paul Reubens) by his side.
Music dominates as he and his band barrel through 15 songs in 100 minutes, yet John nearly vanishes in the foreground while a visual smorgasbord unfolds on a monster LED screen.

 Reviews-E
Although they don't have a CD out yet, their song Rapture is featured on the CPR Volume 1 compilation CD.
The melodies and symphonic elements to the song are quite beautiful, ranging from simple, sparse melancholy ballads to dynamic, progressive post modern rock, with plenty of synths, hammond playing, hum-able choruses and and tasty guitar licks strewn around the palette and painted masterfully into a pastoral sonic landscape.
The "Sanctus" (this album's only song to feature guitarist Riedelberger on lead vocals) is really a two-parter; Part One based on a Bruckner mass, Part Two is a rock piece with rotating keyboard solos a la "Holstenwall Fair." The one thing that makes this album so delightful is the impeccable production.
