Pitch (music) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pitch is often cited as one of the fundamental aspects of music.
Pitch is often measured by frequency or wavelength, but is most often discussed either through musical notation and the accompanying letter labels (C#).
Until the 19th century, there was no concerted effort to standardize musical pitch and the levels across Europe varied widely.

A music process that combines notes based on the music pitches in the sequence is actiually an ACCUMULATION of all the music processes that are associated with the music pitches, using the adjoin operation.
The fundamental aspects of music (certainly in western music) are the PITCH and the RHYTHM.
However, in music, the pitch parameter is not referenced by the 0-127 numbers.

 Concert Pitch
As a listener of music we should consciously choose what it is we listen to and then consciously listen.
These same varying tensions produced by differing concert pitches applies to musical instruments and in turn, the experience of the listener.
This varying concert pitch is the very phenomena that led the Italian government to try to establish concert A at 432 Hz in 1880, so as to protect the voices of the opera singers.

 rhythm and pitch in music
For every piece of music, there is a correct rate or rhythm for maximum harmony: this is the rate at which the basic rhythmic pulse is synchronised with the musical keynote.
Normal, slower, overtly sounded rhythms - typical of percussion in music - are at subsonic frequency and are heard and felt as discrete repeating sounds.
This true rate, in beats per minute, can be calculated by taking the key frequency of the music, repeatedly dividing by two (successively reducing octave) until a value typically between something like one, and two and a half cycles per second is reached (the commonly acceptable rhythmic rates for music), and then multiplying by sixty.

Note that most commercial guitar tuners or tuning programs nowadays, have the ability to auto-detect the note, and then tune according to the auto-detected pitch.
If you want to supply this common feature of auto-note-detection, you may need a quick-but-reliable way to determine 'what frequency to measure against' before you start displaying the tuning deviation with a second slower-but-more-accurate method.
If your only method was the bandpass scheme, you would need to run parallel bandpass pairs for each note of interest (6 pitches for guitar, or 12 pitches for a chromatic tuner).
