P-Funk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It seems part abbreviation of "Parliament-Funkadelic", part abbreviation for "pure funk," a genre of music embodied by the Clinton bands; and part abbreviation of "Plainfield Funk", referring to Plainfield, New Jersey, Parliament's hometown.
He had released a selection of the band's tripped out, experimental songs under the name Parliament in 1970, as the album Osmium.
The following year, he formed The P Funk All Stars, who went on to record Urban Dancefloor Guerillas in 1983 and toured regularly throughout the rest of the 1980s.

P Funk mythology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A series of concept albums and live shows, primarily from Parliament and Funkadelic, have a group of recurring characters, themes and ideas that are collectively referred to as the P Funk mythology.
Their mission is to rescue dance music from the doldrums (unFunkiness).
One central concept is Maggot Brain (Maggot Brain (Funkadelic, 1971)), and a song on that album, which is a way of thinking which allows one to forget one’s troubles, above which one must rise or else drown along with all the maggots of the Earth.

 Can You Get to That?
Funk doesn't have to be heard because the aural music is only a physical manifestation of the yet deeper, noumenal galactic vibe, which is always felt by one whose receptors are tuned to Channel One.
The sweat is not integral to the music, as it is in funk, in jazz.
Colonel Tom wiped Elvis' forehead after each song; the sweat was there because Elvis worked, to be sure, but its presence was denied in the classic Victorian tradition by way of its immediate elimination from the stage.

Six Degrees of P-Funk Album Review
The mix of funk on Six Degrees of P-Funk goes as deep as 1979 on the Mutiny's two contributions: 'Lump' and 'Funk N Bop.' In fact, these two oldest songs are by far the funkiest and most appealing songs on the album.
As the album progresses, the sound develops into a more synthesized adaptation of the funk, characteristic of the late eighties.
His amazing ability to fuse diverse musical styles into the funk sound predominantly found in many hip-hop recordings today, stands as an amazing accomplishment.

Anyone who has played bass in a dance band is familiar with songs like Parliament’s “Flashlight” and “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker),” Funkadelic’s “One Nation Under a Groove” and “Cosmic Slop,” and group leader George Clinton’s solo smash “Atomic Dog”—classic funk tunes with widely divergent bass styles.
From the late 1950s doo-wop days in Clinton’s Plainfield, New Jersey barbershop, to the collective’s current hip-hop ways, P-Funk has always reflected and affected the entire musical and sociological landscape.
Less commonly known are the bassists behind those styles, and how they influenced the sound and direction of the P-Funk collective over a history of nearly 40 years.
