Commercial recording of Cajun music began in 1928 with the first recorded Cajun song, "Allons à Lafayette" by Joe Falcon and Cleoma Breaux.
Probably the single most famous style of music to originate in the city was New Orleans jazz.
In the late 1930s and 1940s, country music became the dominant influence on Cajun music, and bass and steel guitars were used.
