The release of the second album, 1978's 'Mountain's Dream', featuring a colour painting by guitarist Satoru Suttles, was once again recorded by Simon Garber (at Goldrush Studios in Kitsilano) on the heels of their first Canadian tour.
Although characterized by Jim Brown in his book on West Coast Music as "the crown princes of granola music" Flying Mountain was actually an early example of world fusion music.
The name Flying Mountain was derived from a drawing of a mountain with wings first scrawled on a napkin in a diner, by Ferguson.

Well, there he is, the fat kid from Long island who finally gets a record deal and gets his first record produced by the powerful (Cream) and brilliant (just listen to later Mountain in the studio!) Felix Pappalardi.
The fact is, ONLY Mountain sounded like that...They were clearly one of the great American Hard Rock bands of that era (as were Grand Funk Railroad, though constantly maligned by the press), and could be outstanding Live on a good night.
I saw Mountain at the Fillmore in San Francisco back in "69" on their first west coast tour and I could not believe it, they were great!

Bands like Hot Rize drew a lot of bands to this area....shoot, John Denver was from this area and he wasn't always 'Rocky Mountain High'...he sounded like a jamband in his early years.
Beyond the band and the music is the individual.
Years ago I look at bands like The Grateful Dead and realized the most important thing to them was to get people listening to their music and supporting them through their tours rather than their CD sales.
