Motown - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Motown Record Company, L.P., also known as Tamla-Motown outside of the United States, is a record label specializing in the musical genres of RandB, pop, soul music, and hip-hop music.
In addition to the songwriting prowess of the above individuals, one of the major factors in the widespread appeal of Motown's music was Gordy's practice of using a highly select and tight-knit group of studio musicians, collectively known as "The Funk Brothers", to record the instrumental or "band" tracks of the Motown songs.
Motown was the first record label owned by an African American to become a widespread international success, and played an important role in the integration of popular music.

We have tried here to construct album discographies for almost all these labels, from the time the first albums were issued in 1961 to the time compact discs virtually forced vinyl out of existence.
