As a child, Mick played piano, recorder, violin, and harmonium.
Ronson's last ever recorded session was as a guest on the 1993 Wildhearts album Earth Vs The Wildhearts, where he played the guitar solo on the song "My Baby Is A Headfuck".
In 1980 the live album Welcome to the Club was released, including a couple of Ronson showcases, which curiously also had a few new studio tracks - one being a Hunter/Ronson song.

Ronson the soloist was born with an eerie cover of Elvis Presley's 'Love Me Tender', issued as a single at the start of 1974.
This one pictured left, belonged to and was the one used by the late Mick Ronson through David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust period as well as his solo albums and the early day's with Mott the Hoople and the HunterRonson band.
Ronson was one of the Rolling Thunder veterans who appeared on Kinky Friedman's 'Lasso From El Paso' album in 1976, and more importantly also produced the excellent 'Cardiff Rose' LP for another tour survivor, Roger McGuinn.

The album reached No 9 in the UK chart, but the accompanying tour was a disappointment, and it became clear that Ronson's skills as a singer and songwriter were not sufficient to sustain a solo career.
The last Ian Hunter/Mick Ronson album, Yui Orta, was released in 1988, and in February 1989, the duo performed at the Dominion in London.
After receiving piano and violin lessons as a child, Ronson finally took up the guitar in his late teens.

That was Mick (Ronson)'s favorite record, and he wasn't on it.
The song "China," which was sung by Mick Ronson, never made it onto a proper release.
Then Mick Jones says, "You're singing the rest of the album, let Mick sing this." I thought he sung it beautifully, because it's like a sea chantey sort of thing, and he sung it plaintive.

The album also includes some archive tracks from Mick Ronson, which might be enjoyed by Mick Ronson fans, but to me this album doesn't need bonus tracks.
However it was sadly to prove to be short lived as Mick Ronson was diagnosed with liver cancer shortly after the release of this album.
Following the tour to promote this album Mick was as previously mentioned diagnosed with the cancer he succumbed to a few years later and my one regret is that there was never going to be another album from this par again.

Contrary to the typical bio, Ronson's career spanned a much wider spectrum of accomplishment than just being "David Bowie's guitar player".He produced a number of other artist's albums, guested on countless sessions, and released several excellent solo albums, of which this was one of the best.
Ronson also displays his more delicate and sensitive side on tracks like the excellent "The Empty Bed" (the overdubbed acoustic guitar intro is FABULOUS), and "Hazy Days", with it's infectious, feel-good-all-over atmosphere.

The solo bears all of Mick's trademarks and fits in beautifully with song.
The rest: there are some pretty good rock tunes and ballads and the last track "Sweat Dreamer" is an instrumental with Mick Ronson in a subdued mood.

This, for the first time, is an official release of that fantastic concert, issued to coincide with the opening of the Mick Ronson Memorial Stage in Kingston-Upon-Hull (his home town).

Mick played the great main guitar part on Seasick...
Apparently Morrissey mentioned in an interview that the end of the song does sound like Bowie's song though he says it wasn't consciously taken or borrowed.
Browsing in the book shop recently I saw they have copies of "The Spider with the Platinum Hair", a new 256 page biography of Mick Ronson, written by ‘Weird & Gilly’ and published by IMP (Independent Music Press).

The dedication of the Mick Ronson Memorial Stage took place the following day, on Sunday 10th August, in the Queens Gardens.
Michael Picasso was dedicated to Minnie Ronson (Mick's mum).
They did some of their own material, but the set included Life's A River, and they closed with I Feel Free (the Cream number Mick played back in the Ziggy Stardust days).
