CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: The Blessed Virgin Mary
At least part of the verses refer to the mother whose son is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron; according to Psalm 2:9, this is the Son of God, Jesus Christ, Whose mother is Mary.
The Blessed Virgin Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, the mother of God.
As Mary was truly the mother of Jesus, and as Jesus was truly God from the first moment of His conception, Mary is truly the mother of God.

Lucia later revealed that, while the crowd witnessed the sun change colour, the seers witnessed visions of the Virgin Mary and also Jesus and Joseph in the sky.
Sister Lucia De Jesus Dos Santos, who died on Sunday aged 97, was the last of the three children said to have seen apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary outside the Portuguese town of Fatima in 1917.
Since taking her final vows in 1928 Lucia, now known as Lucia de Jesus, had tried to keep a low profile in the convent, though she was constantly besieged by visitors.

 Rev. Frederick Miller
The Hearts of Jesus and Mary have designs of mercy on you.
She came as a Mother to bring the light of Jesus into the darkness of atheism, rebellion and despair which characterizes the so-called modern era of human history.
Mary came in search of all her children, redeemed in the precious blood of her only Son, who had already set themselves on the road of rejection of God and rebellion against his Church; on the road that leads to eternal damnation.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Devotion To the Heart of Mary
Hence, accurately speaking, love is more the result than the object of the devotion, the object being rather to love God, and Jesus better by uniting ourselves to Mary for this purpose and by imitating her virtues.
The history of the devotion to the Heart of Mary is connected on many points with that to the Heart of Jesus; nevertheless, it has its own history which, although very simple, is not devoid of interest.
Little by little, in consequence of the application of the Canticle of the loving relations between God and the Blessed Virgin, the Heart of Mary came to be for the Christian Church the Heart of the Spouse of the Canticles as well as the Heart of the Virgin Mother.

Sister Lucia and Mary Co-redemptrix by Dr. Mark Miravalle
I open the Gospel and I see that from the very beginning Jesus Christ united to his redemptive work the Immaculate Heart of Her whom He chose to be his Mother.
Hence Mary is the first fruit of the Redemption wrought by Christ; and, through his merits, she was carried up to Heaven in body and soul, where she lives and reigns, in God, with her Son and his.
Mary knows that this prophecy is to be fulfilled in the person of her Son; she knows that He has been sent by God to carry out the work of our redemption.

 Mary
Mary the mother of the Lord; Mary the wife of Cleophas or Alphaeus, who was the mother of James the bishop and apostle, and of Simon and Thaddeus, and of one Joseph; Mary Salome, wife of Zebedee, mother of John the evangelist and James; Mary Magdalene.
Mary, mother of James the Less and Joseph, wife of Alphaeus was the sister of Mary the mother of the Lord, whom John names of Cleophas, either from her father or from the family of the clan, or for some other reason.
Though this document was rejected by the Church as being a part of infallible Scripture, it is very early evidence of the belief, held as possisble from the beginning of the Church, that Jesus had "brothers" because his earthly father, Joseph, had children when he married Mary, a consecrated virgin.

John 19:25 has a slightly different set of muses: "Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene." The only satisfactory explanation of two'sisters' being Mary is that they are sisters in law, but this idea was developed later.

 The Mother of God
Because Mary is the mother of the Person of Jesus Christ, she can truly be called the Mother of God, while at the same time not be the mother of God the Father nor of God the Holy Spirit.
For someone to believe that Mary is the mother of Jesus, and that Jesus is both God and man united in one Person, while at the same time denying that Mary is the Mother of God is remarkable, to say the least.
It should be enough for "Bible Christians" to believe that Mary is the Mother of God simply by a reading of Luke 1:43, coupled with the knowledge we now have of Jesus Christ as the God-Man. Unfortunately, it seems it is not enough.

To call Mary the "Mother of Jesus" and yet refuse to call her "Mother of God" is to diminish Jesus as well as Mary, for it is a denial that Jesus is truly or fully God.

In both cases Mary the mother of James and Joseph, was not Virgin Mary who is usually called in the gospels "the mother of Jesus" or "his mother".

Essay XV - Mary, Mother of God
She is “Mary, the Mother of Jesus,” Mary, “of whom was born Jesus.” To believe this is the very touchstone and criterion of the Christian Faith.
Mary, Mother of God, Mother of the Savior, is also the Mother of men and especially the Mother of Christians; she is the Mother of all those for whose sake God became man, for whose redemption our Savior died.
She is the Mother of Jesus, of the Eternal, of him who, living from all eternity, in the fullness of time was born of her at Bethlehem in the human nature which he had deigned to united inseparably to himself.

Ya'akov Ha Tsedek and the Destruction of the Jerusalem Temple [Free Republic]
Let me point out then what John says,[1] "But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene." No one doubts that there were two apostles called by the name James, James the son of Zebedee, and James the son of Alphaeus.
But at this stage I do not wish to argue for or against the supposition that Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary the mother of James and Joses were different women, provided it is clearly understood that Mary the mother of James and Joses was not the same person as the Lord's mother.
The only conclusion is that the Mary who is described as the mother of James the less was the wife of Alphaeus and sister of Mary the Lord's mother, the one who is called by John the Evangelist "Mary of Clopas," whether after her father, or kindred, or for some other reason.

Rejection of Pascal's Wager: James, The Brother of Jesus
Furthermore it is by no means clear that John meant "Mary the mother of Clopas" to be an expansion of "the sister of Jesus' mother".
For the identity of Mary of Clopas as the sister of Mary, mother of Jesus, provides the whole foundation of James being the cousin of Jesus.
Thus Mary of Clopas was the mother of James, brother of the Lord.

In fact, there are six different Marys in the New Testament, though Mary the mother of Jesus is properly 'Mariam' and the other five are usually 'Maria' or 'Mary.' Still, this is not a steadfast rule since Maria and Mariam can be sometimes declined in the same way.
In fact James and Joseph, 'brothers of Jesus,' are the sons of another Mary, a disciple of Christ, whom St. Matthew significantly calls 'the other Mary.' They are close relations of Jesus, according to an Old Testament expression.
Now it is because of these verses that the Catechism has tried to confuse the issue by mentioning "the other Mary," because we learn in Matthew 27:56 that this Mary also had two sons named Jacob and Joses.

John 19, 25 it must be Mary the wife of Clopas, not Mary the "mother of Jesus," as the Virgin Mary is never mentioned by any other title except as "mother of Jesus." Further, we know that the father of James the younger was Clopas, the husband of Mary of Clopas (St.
Consequently, the Virgin Mary, as She supplied only Christ’s human flesh and not His divinity, was only mother of Christ’s humanity and therefore in no sense could be called Mother of God.
It is often the case that one would hear the title of "Mother of God" as applied to the Blessed Virgin Mary disparaged as "Mariolatry" or blasphemy.

Jesus Brothers and Mary's Perpetual Virginity -- Apolonio's Catholic Apologetics, Philosophy, Spirituality
This mysterious “Mary” appears again; this time called “Mary the wife of Clopas.” If this passage is speaking about three women, rather than four (as it almost certainly is), the comma after “his mother’s sister” may be identifying Clopas’ wife as the sister (or ‘tribal-relative’) of Jesus’ mother.
It is also quite possible that, as John’s gospel so often does, this reference to Mary as “wife of Clopas” is a conscious intention to clear up any questions about the “mother of James and Joseph (Jose)” in the Synoptics -- that is, to clearly distinguish her from Jesus’ mother.
So, therefore, Mary the wife of Clopas may NOT be a relative at all NOR is she necessarily the same woman as “Mary the mother of James and Joseph/Jose” in the Synoptics.
