 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Foundation
An ecclesiastical foundation is the making over of temporal goods to an ecclesiastical corporation or individual, either by gift during life or by will after death, on the condition of some spiritual work being done either in perpetuity or for a long time.
The specific works which have to be fulfilled must be set forth in the deed of foundation.
The reduction of a foundation obligation is a matter for the judgment and decision of the Holy See, although it is not uncommon for bishops to receive faculties to make such reduction.

Weather 2000 - The Capabilities of Long Range Weather Forecasting
Climate data provides the all-important foundation from which a forecast is whittled.
The major difference between long- and short-term forecasting is that long-term forecasting does not attempt to predict day-to-day weather events over the course of a season; instead the forecasts determine whether the overall whole of the season, say total precipitation or average temperature, will be above or below normal.
The data should be as long, complete and as 'clean' as possible.

The latter two of these novels are mildly interesting, as they revisit the details of Hari Seldon's life as a psychohistorian, but as the revelations made in Foundation's Edge and Foundation and Earth tend to minimize the importance of Seldon in the grand scheme of things, they too end up falling flat.
