 The London Symphony Orchestra
The London Symphony Orchestra Volume II Volume II was released, on vinyl only, as late as in 1987.
Before Volume II was ever issued on vinyl, there appeared a CD called The London Symphony Orchestra, which had some of the Volume I tracks plus "Bogus Pomp", which would later appear on the Volume II vinyl.
Gratuitous commentary: I understand that the original LSO CD now becomes the "LSO Sampler".

 London Symphony Orchestra - Biography
The London Symphony Orchestra is the capital's longest-established orchestra and was the first in Britain to be self-governing.
The LSO has made a number of recordings for Sony Classical, the most recent being John Williams' original soundtrack recording for George Lucas' prequel Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace (SK/ST/SM 61816), due to be released in conjunction with international film openings this summer.
It is designed to help teachers fulfil the listening and appraising elements of National Curriculum music, and is also intended to help parents and children listen to and understand music ranging from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons to Stravinsky's The Firebird Suite.

Symphony Orchestras - The Classical Music Beat
The word symphony is sometimes used for the instrumental ritornello of songs and vocal movements in aria form.
The orchestral symphony originated in the operatic overture, which in the middle of the 18th century began to assimilate the essentials of the sonata style.
Full size orchestras may sometimes be called "symphony orchestras" or "philharmonic orchestras"; these prefixes do not indicate any difference either to the instrumental content or role of the orchestra, but can be useful to distinguish different orchestras based in the same city (for instance, the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra).

amg review: this lp contains the first set of recording to be released from a session held in january 1983 at which some of frank zappa's orchestral works were recorded by the london symphony orchestra, conducted by kent nagano.
i had him look through the names on zappa's lso album, and he picked out one john lawley (oboe) as someone he and his family knew quite well.
[true - the liner notes to the volume released in 1984 thank the orchestra for their valiant efforts, whereas the notes for the one released in 1987 detail the trumpet story (see below) and a general change in attitude toward the sessions.

Preview of Deep Purple "In Concert With The London Symphony Orchestra"
The orchestra was put to good use throughout this part as well, breathing new life into fairly old songs (including one of the best versions I've heard of "Pictures of Home") by providing oh so beautiful arrangements.
In fact, the orchestra shines through better on disc than at the concerts, where it was slightly hard to distinguish at times.
A lot of praise is due to the Symphony Orchestra itself.

Amazon.com: Music: London Symphony Orchestra, Vols. 1 & 2 [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [LIVE]
LSO is a great viewpoint of Zappa's musical concepts, his influences, and relevance for our century's music.
LSO is very Zappa, probably too much for those who thnk and write Zappa's world is the pop music business.
After listening to other orchestras play FZ music (try national philharmonic on 'orchestral favorites' and bootleg berkley orchestra doing 'Sinister Footwear') and you will see just how stiff the LSO seems to be on so many of these numbers.

Frank Zappa - London Symphony Orchestra, Vol I & II (1983)
The material started out being written for a 1968 Mothers concert where they were joined by the BBC symphony (I believe this is the concert featured on the Ahead of Their Time album).
The version on the LSO album is taken as a more leisurely pace.
This was the only time that FZ ever got his "serious" music played by a full scale, world class orchestra, so if you like that sort of thing then this album definitely belongs in your collection.

Artsandentertainment: A warm welcome for the London Symphony Orchestra
The festival is the cultural highlight of the Daytona Beach area, which doesn't have a symphony orchestra of its own, and the audience of 1,980 was plainly pleased to welcome the orchestra back for its biennial residency.
The orchestra wound up with Moussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition in the masterful orchestration by Ravel.
The orchestra has three more classical concerts, including a pair of all-Russian programs conducted by Mstislav Rostropovich Thursday and Friday.

 London Symphony Orchestra
The London Symphony Orchestra, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this season, and principal conductor Colin Davis have given Chicago music lovers some memorable evenings in recent years.
Davis, a tall, slim, genial-looking septuagenarian, has an affinity for Sibelius' dark visions, and those performances of symphonies, songs and other orchestra works by the Finnish composer were a potent combination of fire and ice.
In late 1997, the orchestra's four-concert, all-Sibelius series provided a glimpse into the composer's brooding soul that Symphony Center listeners will long remember.

 London Symphony Orchestra
The LSO has been seen and heard by millions through its recordings, radio and television appearances, and its famous sound has become familiar to a wider audience through film music.
Even from early days, the Orchestra travelled extensively and has undertaken three world tours.
1996 LSO receives the Evening Standard Classical Music Award for 1995 for "Outstanding Ensemble Performance" for the second year running.

DVD Verdict Review - Deep Purple: In Concert With The London Symphony Orchestra
The first tracks are all such, with guest singers coming in to lend their softer vocals to the orchestra.
Back in 1969 keyboardist Jon Lord first performed a concerto he had written to fuse the band's sound with a symphony orchestra.
Only as the concerto went on did I realize that this was the intent; that it belies the preconception that rock and roll and classical music cannot mix, then the second and third movement shows the orchestra and band becoming allies rather than adversaries.

 The London Gay Symphony Orchestra
The orchestra was formed as a musical home for the large number of gay and lesbian musicians who wanted to combine their music and social lives.
In these and other works the orchestra has worked with distinguished soloists such as Ilse de Ziah and Jamie Walton (cello), Michael Davies (violin) and Nettle and Markham (piano duo), as well as all the London gay choruses and the Keele Bach Choir.
The orchestra's own composers' group offers support to composers within the orchestra, from the highly experienced to the first-timer.

 London Symphony Orchestra
But the arrangement of seven well-known songs for orchestra and violin is so over the top it's silly.
The saving grace of this album is the incredibly dignified and agile playing of young Joshua Bell, a peaches-and-cream fiddler who seems the antithesis of his notorious comrades, spike-haired Kennedy and Nadia in the bright red dress.
Actually, the arrangement for orchestra and solo violin of most of the big tunes from Porgy and Bess works just fine, since it follows the orchestral score closely.

Vince Mendoza, London Symphony Orchestra - Epiphany
All the Jazz guys are well known professionals who match the formal grace of the orchestra with improvisational sensitivity.
The tracks often give the feeling of film music - with the atmospheric and fantasy nature they generate.
The opening track "Impromptu" sets the bench mark for this CD, reflective and beautiful, the Jazz impresses upon the orchestral opening gently, quietly.

I didn't until this particular recording of the Symphony from the New World was recommended to me. So far I have only managed to listen to it on my computer and even the sub-par speakers can not mask the richness of this recording.
London Symphony under the baton of Kertesz played very sensitive, emotional, impressive.
The first was recorded close to 1960 on the same London/Decca label with the Vienna Philharmonic.

The result in an "in-your-face" musical experience that is simply compelling - it is impossible to listen to it and remain disengaged.
The ideal recording would be Vladimir Ashkenazy on his Concertgebouw recording on Decca (with Haitink), accompanied by Szell and the London Symphony.
This is indeed a fine recording that deserves the classification "classic," it's not, though, the greatest recording ever made of this wonderful concerto.

ttgapers.com store - The Essential Clarinet - - Product Details
Bernstein: This is the recording of the piece to look for, after finding myself somewhat not as pleased in the Bernstein/Goodman recording and the more disasterous Bernstein/Vienna one (Would you expect a world class European orchestra to play a piece not really part of their very genre, and across the Atlantic???).
Corigliano manages to showcase the most wonderful qualities of the clarinet AND create unique and inspiring sounds in the orchestra (especially in the first movement).
The first movement is slow, lyrical, and lulls you to peace, while the second movement is more active, more fun, with a bit of jazz-like elements.

Deep Purple - In Concert With The London Symphony Orchestra reviewed by The House of Shred
The performance itself is flawless, with the band sounding as tight as ever, and the Orchestra sounding magnificent.
The addition of guitar virtuoso Steve Morse has added new fire to the band as was proven by their latest studio CD, Abandon.
Back in 1970, Deep Purple assumed the role of Rock N' Roll Pioneers and made music history as they released the critically acclaimed Concerto For Group and Orchestra (composed by Jon Lord) accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded live at The Royal Albert Hall in their native England.

Although some listeners may bemoan the fact that RCA didn't choose to make this recording with Tilson Thomas' current home orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the LSO proves to be a good fit given the conductor's emphasis on rhythm, color, and sharp tempo contrasts.
All of this is made possible by highly spirited, rhythmically incisive playing from the London Symphony Orchestra.
