Grunge music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Grunge music (sometimes also referred to as the Seattle Sound) is an independent -rooted music genre that was inspired by hardcore punk, thrash metal, and alternative rock.
Grunge bands avoided the complex, high budget presentations that bands from other rock genres such as heavy metal were known for; complex light arrays, pyrotechnics, and other technological visual effects unrelated to playing the music were not part of the concerts.
Both The Melvins and the punk band The Wipers (also influential to grunge bands) are sometimes considered grunge themselves by some fans of the genre, though are also considered hardcore punk bands by many others.

2 Supergroup Rock Dream Teams in the ultimate Battle of the Bands
Both Supergroups make and release albums and they share in the profits of their albums.
A Supergroup member should be able to play their instrument with distinction, sing and write songs.
The final show could be a live concert where the band that sold the fewer amount of CD's has to open for the band that sold the most.

Top 10 Albums - Review - Something for any mood..
I really didnt want to put a compilation album on this list, but I simply had to in this case, the Beastie Boys anthology is a double cd collection of all the classic Beastie Boys tracks, from their early hardcore punk stylings to the definitive hip-hop they mastered this album has it all.
Perhaps it is, as their press release says, "the combination of 2 of the 1990's supergroups" which creates such an intoxicating album when their musical abilities are put together.
Grunge at its grassroots, even if they didnt start the grunge movement of the late 80's/early 90's Nirvana summed it up better than anyone and this album I consider probably the finest of their fruits.

Van Halen Links.com - What Killed Van Halen?
They were not flushed down the grunge toilet with the rest of the hair bands, they simply didn't continue to regularly release good music.
Styx category of one time supergroups that in their heyday were the shit but are now practically irrelevant.
Cherone was in a Van Halen wannabe band in Extreme that was erased by grunge just like Poison, Cinderella, Winger, Ratt and very other 80's hair bands.

List of grunge supergroups - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Grunge supergroups were often critically acclaimed, but typically had only one album, due to members' commitments to their previous bands.
These were bands that contained members who were previously famous from other grunge, alternative rock, and punk rock bands of the era.
During the 1990s, there were several instances of grunge supergroups.

 10 Best Albums of All-Time
The Pixies second album perfected their abrasive, poppy punk sound for which grunge and nu-metal owe their birth.
The Goo Goo Dolls were a grunge band from Buffalo who became a surprise hit when an L.A. disc jockey discovered "Name" on the flip side of "A Boy Named Goo." With success came better producers, larger recording budgets and more attention to song composition.
A band ahead of their time, the Pixies transformed alternative and indie music which was stuck between punk and art-rock.

Worst Period In Rock/Pop Music History???
At least there is some talent in Journey, there is/was no talent in the grunge bands it was/is just as bad as rap.
The 60's sucked for pop music, it was better in the 70's and early 80's but after about 85 it went down hill fast and has not come back up yet.

Musician Forums - You're Favourite Supergroup?
for those who don't know, a supergroup is the term given to a band that is made up of various artists from former successful bands.
LTE are great, but are essentially dream theater minus the vocalist so the music is essentially DT minus the vocals.
I'd have to say The Beatles, they are so dynamic and amazing.

Epinions.com - I know, It's Only Rock And Roll.... But I Like It!
This CD, made from the Seattle supergroups Pearl jam and Soundgarden, was made in tribute to the late Andrew Wood, lead singer of a popular Seattle band Mother Love Bone.
You'd have thought that people realized years ago this sort of list never works out, Your Gotta-have is someone else's Gotta-kill, and the songs that touched you, and carried you through the night almost topped yourself is also the song that someone else demanded get banned from the radio....
So there you have it, one long wild list from a crazy girl with too much time on her hands, oh well.

EYO Forums - Greatest rock song of all time
Think about it this way, just about everone wether they like the band or not will know a U2 song, they might not even know its a U2 song but they will know and like one of their songs regardless.
I'm sure U2 was dictated by record company producers or else they won't be around today, musical directions, marketing, etc. They may wrote most of their own songs, but I doubt if they keep playing what they love that they'll be around today.
The mere fact that they will sign an artist up for 3 albums, promote the first one and then have nothing to do with them anymore (even thought they still 'own' the band so to speak) is obvoiusly about the money and nothing else (possibly the share holders as well).

The CHUD.COM Message Boards - The List: 100 BEST SINGLES OF THE MILLENNIUM
Kurt Cobain raised from the dead still sounds more genuinely than every grunge copycat band in recent memory, and the song remains one of many damning pieces of evidence on how brokenhearted the late rocker really was before taking his own life.
A new starlet is born as the world first heard with this song: vulnerable and confident, brash and fearless, but licking her wounds, FALLIN’ laments the lover that’s so bad they’re good.
Cake’s funky, stop-start laundry list of essential qualities rings truer than any love song could about the ideal partner.

 Artistopia Music - Mad Season
For the matchbox twenty album of the same name, see Mad Season (album)}} '''Mad Season''' was a grunge band formed in late 1994 by existing members of three popular bands of the day as well as a friend of one.
It only released one album, ''Above'', and is best known for the single "River of Deceit," which makes the band generally considered a one-hit wonder.

Van Halen Links.com - Big Hair Metal Was Killed By Grunge But Grunge Was Killed by...
Grunge was in my opinion, the most important music era since the glory days of the 60's and early 70's.
Grunge wasn't the end of Metal, it was actually the final phase of it.
The fact that crappy pop music did in Grunge is a fact.

 Music
Therefore, I think it'd be more productive for me to list styles of music with a few examples that are ever-present as well as a little bit about my current favourite album.
By the time I'd finished writing the list, I'd probably not be listening to half of the groups on there.
Unfortunately, the band have now released a Greatest Hits album which would suggest that there will not be anything new from them again.

Dream Theater FAQ 6.99.03 -- Graphic Version
DT began to field an obsessive and musically-inclined fan base who had been disappointed by late-80's and early-90's glam and grunge, and had held onto their Rush, Yes, and Floyd records, hoping for the day when another such band would come about.
Here is a list of songs that either haven't been played live, or have never been recorded live at any known show:

His first solo effort ain't stoner or grunge at all really but degradation trip is dark hard rock and ye should check some of the songs out from it.
Sonic Youths album "Dirty" is one of the best grunge records ever imo.
also there were a couple of grunge "supergroups" which weren't really stoner rock at all, but i imagine u'll like their songs:

 EMAIL LIST #350 October 10
Frenzied wall of guitar driven thrash with gutteral shouts and pulverizing drums, Totalitar's sound is cut of the classic Swedish hardcore punk sound and Ni Maste Bort was originally released on Sweden's Finn records label.
This inventive, creative duo are caked in gritty, high-wattage garage punk and B-movie rock'n'roll, a twisted influence of greaser/garage rock sounds, adjusted with an art punk mentality, channeled through some big amp rawk.
THE BEVIS FROND-Valedictory Songs 2LP/CD (Rubric/RUB11) $20.99 The year 2000 album from Nick Saloman and friends, with more pop emphasis to the psych.

Spun.com: Music: Audioslave: Out of Exile
That suspicion was given weight by their eponymous 2002 debut, which sounded as if Cornell wrote melodies and lyrics to tracks RATM wrote after the departure of Zack de la Rocha, but any lingering doubts about Audioslave being a genuine rock band are vanished by their 2005 second album, Out of Exile.
Given that most supergroups last little longer than a single album, it was easy to assume that Audioslave -- the pairing of Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell and the instrumental trio at the core of Rage Against the Machine -- was a one-off venture.

Still, Pearl Jam remains the last of the grunge supergroups, since Soundgarden, Nirvana and Alice in Chains have all since disbanded.
Pearl Jam, the last real holdout from the grunge era, remains vital as Riot Act sold 166,000 copies to open at number five.
