 Raised By the Radio
David Bowie - Lets Dance (Lets Dance, 1983) - It’s amazing to me how Bowie can feel so at home in so many different genres.
Lets Dance is one his least ambitious tracks… the song itself is actually rather a straight forward pop song, but the end result is anything but a typical pop song.
Chic had just disbanded, & Lets Dance was one of guitarist Nile Roger’s first big production projects, lending to the funky feel of the record, & a young Stevie Ray Vaughan played lead guitar.

Move over, 'Macarena'; here comes the catchy 'Ketchup Song': 10/31/02
Earlier this month, the Munoz sisters sang their song on one of Germany's most popular TV shows -- 13 million people tuned in -- and watched as David Bowie, Cindy Crawford and other glitterati did the dance.
The song's wildfire spread is reminiscent of the "Macarena," the 1996 song and dance by the Spanish duo Los del Rio.
The version released in the United States and most other non-Spanish speaking countries is called "The Ketchup Song (Hey Hah)." The refrain's the same but the intelligible part of the song -- it actually has one -- switches to Spanglish.

 VH1.com : David Bowie : Biography
Greeted with massive success for the first time, Bowie wasn't quite sure how to react, and he eventually decided to replicate Let's Dance with 1984's Tonight.
Bowie needed to finance the Arts Lab, so he signed with Mercury Records that year and released Man of Words, Man of Music, a trippy singer/songwriter album featuring "Space Oddity." The song was released as a single and became a major hit in the U.K., convincing Bowie to concentrate on music.

phoenixnewtimes.com Music Back to the Future 1997-02-27
Not only do many of the song structures, melodies and vocals on Earthling echo Ziggy Stardust-era Bowie, but a good deal of his 30-year-plus career is evoked during the course of the album as well, from the soul of Young Americans to the "classic rock" of Let's Dance.
One of several striking, almost iconic images that adorn the self-designed cover of David Bowie's new album, Earthling, is a "Kirlian photo" of a crucifix taken by Bowie in 1974.
Another bright flash of originality (with more early '80s electro references) is the album's closer, "Law (Earthlings on Fire)." Unfortunately, this song has been misunderstood and almost uniformly trashed by critics.

Earthling (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Earthling is a 1997 album by David Bowie.
However, the album featured elements not common to dance electronica, such as live acoustic and electric guitar (and even solos), jazzy live piano, and song structures more common to pop-rock than techno.
Bowie's enthusiasm for remixing reached its peak when this album was released and the numerous singles from it were also issued to clubs, as well as online: three versions of "Telling Lies" were released on Bowie's official website months prior to the album's release, constituting the first ever downloadable single by a major artist.

 Buy.com - Ready Sex Go - Marvelous 3 - CD
High class musical references abound, such as Def Leppard and Queen in some of the choruses, Material Issue and Green Day in some of the guitar parts, plus hints of '70s glam (which may explain why "Cigarette Lighter Love Song," co-written with David Bowie, has a chorus which sounds suspiciously like "All the Young Dudes.")
The bottom line is that even though these guys are loutish enough to put an inflatable sex doll on the cover, they're also capable of wit and wordplay (see "This Time"), and they're terrific tunesmiths--nearly every song here has an insanely catchy hook scattered somewhere about its person.
Don't miss the hidden bonus track; it may begin with a radio announcer reading the album's credits, but after about four minutes it segues into a dance remix of the ninth track, "I'm Losing You."

 DRUM'N'BASS_PIONEER ROB PLAYFORD
The song's arrangement sensibilities and distinctive drum pattern have been appropriated by numerous artists, including David Bowie ("Little Wonder") and Nine Inch Nails ("The Perfect Drug"), while producers and engineers of styles as disparate as alternative metal, contemporary jazz, and mainstream pop have imitated the song's sonic effects and sparse ambience.
Up until that time, drum 'n' bass was thriving in the dark depths of the UK's underground club scene, but Timeless proved that the style's scattershot rhythms, depth-charge bass lines, and eerie chordal pads could appeal to listeners in their living rooms as well as to club goers on the dance floor.
Roni Size/Reprazent, New Forms (Mercury, 1997) At a time when most drum 'n' bass was getting colder and more tech oriented, Roni Size and his Bristol-based crew-DJ Krust, DJ Die, DJ Suv, and various live musicians and vocalists-reminded fans of the genre's funk and soul roots.

On their full-length debut for Astralwerks, Lawrence, KS, combo Golden Republic snap glam influences (David Bowie, the T. Rex preen of "You Almost Had It" and "She's So Cold") and some fashionable dance-punk overtures (strutty basslines, the occasional trebly organ filigree) onto an indie guitar band chassis.
But it's nevertheless a nice song that shows some variety from the songs about flashy-eyed scene-makers and dead-end drinkers that populate other areas of Golden Republic.
A few tweaks here and there -- more emphasis on the cello or acoustic guitar parts that surface here and there, for example -- might give the band's next effort more stylistic punch.
