The New Orleans Rhythm Kings were one of the most influential jazz bands of the early/mid 1920s.
They were first called "The New Orleans Rhythm Kings" while touring the midwest with singer Bee Palmer in the late 1910s.
The New Orleans Rhythm Kings (or NORK as they were nicknamed) were formed among a nucleus of musicians who were childhood friends in New Orleans.

The concert featured a new song, whose title I have to guess to be The Rhythm Kings, as Gary Brooker's introduction (as usual) was somewhat mumbled: "This is a song for the band, thank you - Georgie Fame does The Rhythm Kings ladies and gentlemen.
The piano, the Hammond and the guitar could each play long solos, while the rest of the instruments were free to provide a tight backing.
The songs played that night were all good humored songs, easy to enjoy for the audience.

Let's face it: technically and musically the Rhythm Kings are by far the better band.
The Rhythm Queens have nice voices, Beverly gets a bit of a solo spor there and there (Melody, Spooky), but this could be any other showband.

Do you remember "Big Twist & The Mellow Fellows?" If you were/or are an R&B fan with a fetish for horns, than in all likelihood, I’m sure you remember them quite well, and probably own some of their old Alligator Record discs.
