Blues - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One kind of early 1940s urban blues was the jump blues, a style heavily influenced by big band music and characterized by the use of the guitar in the rhythm section, a jazzy, up-tempo sound, declamatory vocals and the use of the saxophone or other brass instruments.
Blues is a vocal and instrumental music form which emerged in the African-American community of the United States.
Both recorded blues and country can be traced to the 1920s, when the popular record industry developed and created marketing categories called "race music" and "hillbilly music" to sell music by and for blacks and whites respectively.

ASA 147th Meeting Lay Language Papers - SmartMusicKIOSK: Music Listening Station with Chorus-Search Function
In the case of popular music, for example, customers often want to listen to the most representative, uplifting part of a song, which is generally the chorus or refrain, to pass judgment on that song.
The structure of a song is automatically analyzed beforehand and functions are provided enabling automatic jumping to sections that would be of interest to listeners.
This desire produces a special way of listening in which the trial listener first listens briefly to a song's "intro" and then jumps ahead in search of the chorus by pushing the fast-forward button repeatedly, eventually finding it and listening to it.

The Rhythm and Blues Music Primer - The R&B History File 2
The single and most renowned exponent of this development is Louis Jordan who, originally with a relatively small band, began to make blues based records with humorous lyrics and a rhythm owing as much to boogie woogie as to the more traditional classic blues form.
It is also worth noting that the electric guitar, having played such a prominent part in the urbanisation of the blues, was here often relegated to an accompanying role - listen to Charles Brown records for example and you'll hear virtually all the solos played by Brown at the piano.
What distinguished many of these artists was the sheer breadth of material played - straight 12 bar, intrumentals, blues ballads and straight pop songs were all part of the scene at that time.
