John Lee Hooker - The World´s Greatest Blues Singer
Hooker was contracted to Art Rupe's Specialty Records in early 1954 (only one single was issued), but the Modern recordings continued for a while later, and the last Modern recordings were made early 1955 (or possibly late 1954).
Hooker´s debut record was cut at United Sound Studios for Bernie Besman (born 1912 - dies January 10, 2003) - with Joe Siracuse, engineer, in September 1948.
From 1965 Hooker regularly recorded in New York, due to his new-signed contract with ABC Records after Vee-Jay´s bankruptcy (the first couple of albums produced by Bob Thiele).

Amazon.com: Music: John Lee Hooker: The Ultimate Collection 1948-1990
Hooker took the music in an entirely different method, by returning to the modal base of the music.
Hooker's music falls into the generation of the R & B bluesmen of the late 1940s who brought the stream of music from the Delta--Johnny Lee being from Clarksdale--to the North, Muddy Waters to Chicago, Johnny Lee to Detroit.
This is a solid collection of songs by John Lee Hooker, spanning most of his long career.

Metroactive Music John Lee Hooker Jr.
Judging by an advance copy of Hooker Jr.'s new single, "There's a Struggle," he is far from a blues purist; in fact it would be wrong to label him "just" a blues singer.
In the song "Struggle," Hooker reveals an affinity for jazz and RandB.
JOHN LEE HOOKER is a happy man right about now.

RollingStone.com: John Lee Hooker : John Lee Hooker Dies : News
Hooker recorded prolifically for numerous labels, under numerous different names.
Hooker continued to perform and record through the Seventies and Eighties, though 1989 marked a turning point.
Though the rise of rock and roll created a drought for his hits, the genre was full of young upstarts who cited Hooker as an influence, including the Animals who covered the Hook's "Boom Boom." In 1970, Canned Heat took their homage a step further, recording an entire album, Hooker 'n' Heat, with the bluesman.

Trail of the Hellhound: John Lee Hooker
One of Hooker's early musical highlights was an engagement at Memphis's New Daisy Theater with young Robert Nighthawk.
Bessman, however, leased Hooker's masters to a variety of labels under names such as John Lee Booker, Birmingham Sam, Delta John, and others, to avoid contractual conflict.
The elements of Hooker's style are revealed in "Boogie Chillen." Deep, menacing vocals are alternately sung and spoken over droning, one-chord guitar figures.

 Blues is the healer
John Lee changes record company a number of times, he doesn’t exactly live the high life.
Since then, John Lee has released four albums of fantastic recordings.
All of the others had big bands, electric guitars, pianos, electric harmonicas, saxophones, drum kits, John Lee had his guitar and his right foot.

 John Lee Hooker

All funds will be directed to John Lee's favorite non-profit charities involved in music education for children and musician assistance programs.
Hooker had recorded with various combos along the way before, but never with sidemen as versatile and sympathetic as guitarist Eddie Taylor and harpist Jimmy Reed, who backed him at his initial Vee-Jay date that produced "Time Is Marching" and the superfluous sequel "Mambo Chillun."
With the expert help of slide guitarist extraordinaire/producer Roy Rogers, the Hook waxed The Healer, an album that marked the first of his guest star-loaded albums (Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, and Robert Cray were among the luminaries to cameo on the disc, which picked up a Grammy).

John Lee Hooker - The World´s Greatest Blues Singer - cont´d (page 1)
Tracks 1 and 12: Johnny Lee - Tracks 2, 3, 4, 5 and 16: John Lee Booker - Tracks 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23: Texas Slim - Track 8 previously unissued - Tracks 13 and 18 were first released on King LP.
Hooker´s fine - very early (and hard-to-find CD) Elmer Barbee recordings - most of them sold to Joe Von Battle, who re-sold them to Savoy (with some singles issued on Regent, Acorn and Chance - where he used his several pseudonyms, including Birmingham Sam, Delta John, The Boogie Man, and John Lee Booker).
Almost all of John Lee Hooker´s early recordings were issued in one form or another during the years of 2000-2004 (due to copyright endings), but this great series is the most worthwhile - the double-CDs come from France (they are the best buys although the price is somewhat high).

 Robert E. Lee - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch
Strangely, Lee was unable to speak, although he tried.
There was little doubt as to Lee's sentiments.
These were not happy years for Lee as he did not like to be away from his family for long periods of time, especially as his wife was becoming increasingly ill. Lee came home to see her as often as he could.
