Jethro Tull (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Due to pressure from Chrysalis Records, Anderson released his solo album as a Jethro Tull album in 1980.
1988 was notable for the release of 20 Years of Jethro Tull, a 5-LP themed set (also released as an unthemed 3-CD set and as a truncated single CD version) consisting largely of outtakes from throughout the band's history as well as a variety of live and digitally remastered tracks.
2003 saw the release of The Jethro Tull Christmas Album, which showcases the excellent musical abilities of all the band members with a collection of traditional Christmas songs together with old and new Christmas songs written by Jethro Tull.

No Life 'til Metal - CD Gallery - Jethro Tull
Jethro tull entered the 1980's with an album that would prove to be one of their strongest of the decade.
Anyhow, Jethro Tull's second album, with Ian Anderson (vocals, flute, acoustic guitars, keyboards), Martin Barre (electric guitar, flute), Clive Bunker (drums), and Glen Cornick (bass), is really outstanding and solidified the band's sound and style for years to come.
As is usual with Jethro Tull, this CD is chock full of progressive songwriting that includes that majestic sounding flute.

Jethro Tull, MP3 Music Download at eMusic
The record, A, was eventually released as a Jethro Tull album in September of 1980, but even the Tull name didn't do much for its success.
Barlow, Evan, and Palmer, however, were dropped from the group's lineup with the recording of A, and the new version of Jethro Tull toured in support of the album.
Jethro Tull was a unique phenomenon in popular music history.

Jethro Tull - PopMatters Concert Review
This underscored a vintage snippet of Tull lyricism from the *Warchild* album, a philosophical reference to the struggle for existence, "the fight for your life that is everyday." In a show of civilized restraint, no vehicles were overturned or burned.
Jethro Tull has toured perennially for going on 33 years, and their press asserts that they've done over 2,500 concerts.
Obviously, a Jethro Tull show is going to include a majority of the songs from the back catalogue; stuff you still hear on Classic Rock radio, or as period window dressing for the occasional movie or TV show.

New Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock J
Jethro Tull recorded their first album in 1968 and have been in existence since then, with a break in the mid 80s.
Jethro Tull are very well known and perhaps as a result of this many people have misconceptions of the band, their ideas about the band being dominated by the image of Anderson as frenetic flute-playing court jester rather than any notion of what the music is like.
Highly electric (it is the only album by Jethro Tull to feature no acoustic guitar at all) and co-written by keyboardist Eddie Jobson, it only barely qualifies as a Jethro Tull album at all.

 Willerup Bros: Jethro Tull
The band has released over 30 albums over a period of 27 years and not only are the lyrics extremely varied but the music as well is very different.
The thing is - even with the diversity in styles, Jethro Tull has been able to keep a very distinct sound, I guess mostly because of the flute and the capo 3 on the guitar.
I have since bought all their albums (on vinyl) and later when Ian Anderson decided only to publish on compact disc I bought a CD player and have now a close to complete CD collection as well.

 Jethro Tull
Tull's third record immediately preceded their long string of Top 10 albums.
This is a double record made up of unreleased material, the first part being mostly from an unreleased 1972 album, and the second spanning the mid-70s, 80s, and 90s.
Their last studio album to zoom up the charts, but it stalled at #19.

Jethro Tull's 1973 album, 'A Passion Play' is probably their most lyrically complex, and has often been considered impenetrable by critics and casual listeners.
Jethro Tull have performed more than 2500 concerts since 1968.

 Jethro Tull
However, it was the albums as a whole which provided the strength for the developing Jethro Tull, containing as they did, not one, but usually several classic rock radio-friendly tracks to keep the band's profile high between concert tours and new releases.
The remaining Tull members embarked, with the then unproven addition of replacement Martin Barre, on the recording of the landmark album "Stand Up" at the beginning of 1969.
With two number one albums in the USA and other world-wide chart and sales success behind them, the band began to remove itself from the more commercially-driven side of recording and touring.

But Jethro Tull were the most frazzled British art rockers of their day.
With several FM-radio hits, this was the record that made Tull into a major arena band.
that Tull became a staple on FM rock radio, thanks to dynamic riff-heavy tracks like "My God," "Hymm 43," "Locomotive Breath," "Cross-eyed Mary," "Wind-Up," and the title track.

Jethro Tull with the Young Dubliners concert review
Jethro Tull played, that included a slap-bass solo, sounded amazing (and that's probably more a tribute to Bach than to Jethro Tull).
Even though Ian Anderson, their frontman, scoffed at labels applied to them by music critics, the band was in fine progressive form, playing their repertoire of songs with syncopated time signatures and melacholic combination of guitars, violins (synthesised) and the flute.
Still, if you hold a point of view that a concert experience should be very different from listening to an album produced in the studio, then Jethro Tull is one of the acts that's hard to beat in this regard.

Tull's longevity is a source of personal delight, and I have great memories of 'Budapest' in 1991 and a certain young lady who was part of the stage show for that song, but this is not 'the Very Best' - except perhaps in the opinion of the compiler....oops!

You'll find reviews of the various Tull albums on these pages, divided up into a sort of "Jethro Tull timeline," something that makes sense (at least to me) given the sheer amount of time the band has been playing together.

Jethro Tull to play sold-out Foxwoods Arena - norwichbulletin.com
Although Tull has its roots in the British blues boom of the late '60s, they later transformed into a unique phenomenon in popular music, adopting a fresh musical and lyrical style by the mid-'70s.
Today, their loyal fans are responsible for giving the group 11 gold and five platinum albums, and their most popular records remain mainstays of a typical music store's inventory.
Led by versatile front man Ian Andersen, an energetic singer, songwriter, flautist and guitarist, Jethro Tull cut their first pop/folk single in 1968, "Sunshine Day," released by MGM Records under the misprinted name, "Jethro Toe."

I was especially nervious as this was the first time I'd had the opportunity to see Jethro Tull in concert, having so badly wanted to see them live since I was a wee tike.
The current tour treats us to rarely played songs, a full acoustic set and the usual antics from the band that introduced the flute to rock music.
Ian's voice was a topic audience members were talking about during the interval, but I feel he fared very well during the acoustic half of the show.

The evolution of the image of the minstrel in the music and in the stage antics of Jethro Tull is essential to placing the music into the kind of historical context that will allow insight into its apparent paradoxes.
Ian recognized this album as marking the time when the band "came together" in terms of sound, and also in terms of the relationship between the live show and the music (Anderson 7-8).
Warchild was the first album to consciously make the connection between Tull and the court jester.

 The Annotated Passion Play
It sounded incredible to hear Tull play the music in exactly the same order as I had edited it on my own cassette and minidisc years ago.
Those three cuts ARE precisely the music which was replaced on the final "Passion Play" album by the "Hare and His Spectacles".
It reminds me of the same premise as the Cable TV show, "Mystery Science Theater 3000" - A man is banished to spend eternity watching horrible movies in the utter isolation of outer space.

For the progressive rock band named after him, see Jethro Tull (band).
Tull also invented a horse-drawn hoe for clearing weeds, and made changes to the design of the plough which are still visible in modern versions.
Although Tull was wrong that nutrients locked up in soil could be released through pulverising it, and his inventions were sometimes considered controversial and were not widely adopted for many years, on the whole he introduced innovations which formed part of the foundation of productive modern agriculture.

Berkshire History: Biographies: Jethro Tull (1674-1741)
After being admitted as a barrister, Tull made a tour of Europe and, in every country through which he passed, was a diligent observer of the soil, culture and vegetable productions.
But though Tull was successful in demonstrating what might be done by improved culture, he was not able to turn it to his own advantage.
He was born in Basildon in early 1674, the son of Jethro Tull Senior, a gentleman farmer of that parish, and his wife, Dorothy, the daughter of Thomas Buckeridge.
