James Brown (musician) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brown followed this success with a string of singles that, along with the work of Allen Toussaint in New Orleans, essentially defined funk music.
Brown's vocals, not quite sung but not quite spoken, would be a major influence on the technique of rapping, which would come to maturity along with hip hop culture and hip hop music during the following decade.
Those same tracks would later be resurrected by countless hip-hop musicians from the 1970s on; in fact, James Brown remains the world's most sampled recording artist, and "Funky Drummer" is itself the most sampled individual piece of music.

 Funk/Soul -- James Brown
Brown continued to rack up hit singles through the early 1960's but began to wonder what would happen if he could capture his energy and excitement on an album.
Brown trained his musicians to accent every scream, split, shake and shimmy he maneuvered during his concerts, which had become the visual trademark of the group's stage act.
Today Brown has gained a new generation of fans who sample his voice and rhythms on rap and hip-hop recordings.
