Jag Panzer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Colorado natives Jag Panzer first came together in late 81, being inspired by the onslaught of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal that had taken the heavy rock world by storm in the early 80s.
Jag Panzer is a North American power metal band.
Swedish born drummer Rikard Stjernquist was added to the line-up and the band proceeded to record the follow-up to their critically acclaimed first LP.

 Metallian.com - Jag Panzer
As in most musical concepts, Panzer's music has become enslaved to the theme of Macbeth.
In the past the panzers have suffered from ugly vocals, indifferent music and a monotonous approach and the new album's opener, entitled Feast Or Famine, seems to repeat the formula.
Aptly titled The Fourth Judgement, Colorado's Jag Panzer latest release is a reunion of sorts for the band which seemed to gather more momentum in absentia than when actually releasing albums in the mid-'80s.

This is easily Jag Panzer’s strongest release so far and their isn’t any real filler tracks on the album.
Harry Conklins vocals are in top form as always, and the new vocal melodies he uses fit in well with the softer parts of the guitar work for a majority of the albums chorus'.
Certainly the lyrics can be a little amusing at first, but once this is overcome the album continues to grow on the listener.

Rough Edge: Jag Panzer CD Reviews
Jag Panzer is Harry Conklin on vocals, Chris Broderick on guitar and keyboards, Mark Briody on guitar and keyboards, John Tetley on bass and backing vocals, and Rikard Stjernquist on drums.
Jag Panzer are a veteran band who have hung in there through the years and who have developed a strong fan base that continues to scoop up their CDs and fill their shows today.
Although it's one of my favorite songs in the collection, "Metal Melts the Ice" is undeniably a bit cheesy, and some of the earlier songs are laden with heavy metal clichés.

Album Review JAG PANZER-Mechanized Warfare :: Maelstrom :: Issue No 5
Jag Panzer have employed a large cast of supporting musicians on the album, the coolest being a Gregorian chant group, which makes its appearance on the song "Unworthy." Gregorian chant rules.
In this sense, Jag Panzer is in stark contrast to a European power metal band like Stratovarius (which I've been listening to a lot lately) whose songs (and albums, basically) are repetitive and interchangeable.
Rather, Jag Panzer put the brakes on quite a bit to present a technical section; the band only cuts loose in a power metal sense a few times on the album.

 Masters Of Metal-Jag Panzer
JAG PANZER have done a magnificent job in telling the tale of Macbeth through their electrifying music, and the segues between songs along with the use of more unorthodox instruments (including viola and minstrel-like singing) add to the imagination of the story line.
JAG PANZER's new album, Thane To The Throne, takes the Colorado metal machine's sound into further dimensions, this time via a concept story line based on the Shakespeare classic Macbeth.
Although the record re-acquainted everyone with the band name, early Jag Panzer fans were not satisfied with the current style and line-up.

 Metal-Rules.com VOLUME I - Jag Panzer Interview
I've loved Jag Panzer's music for a number of years now and never did I expect to be releasing a CD with one of their songs on it!
Daring to pursue a theatrical storyline with orchestral arrangements to demonstrate the depth of their musicianship and based on Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the year 2000’s concept album, Thane To The Throne (Jim Morris) even featured a classical piece composed by Broderick, which was performed on the album by The Moscow String Quartet from Russia.
Jag Panzer is perhaps the best-known band on this CD.

JAG PANZER are already working on their brand new album, tentatively entitled Casting The Stones, that will be released this fall.
Sixteen years and many bootlegged versions after the original recording, the myth finally comes alive: This is the first official release of the legendary Chain Of Command album from the Colorado cult metal quintet JAG PANZER.
This is not a brand new release, but rather their 1988 classic album that was never properly released, just available as expensive bootlegs of poor quality.

But the problem with Jag Panzer is that it is no longer the early 1980's, and this style of music is, plain and simply, nothing special.
If their original material sounded anything like the music they are recording nowadays (and I must admit to not having heard anything earlier than a song or two from 1998's "The Age of Mastery"), then I must commend them for being one of the first aggressive power metal bands I know of.
With a debut EP that is contemporary with Metallica's "Kill 'em All" and a full length debut circa "Powerslave," Jag Panzer might have been one of the more influential metal bands in this country, had they not immediately taken a thirteen-year hiatus.

Their earlier albums are nowadays next to impossible to come by due to legal problems with the lead guitarist of those days, but the band were kind enough to officially release Chain of Command, a classic in the power metal genre and previously only available as a low-quality bootleg.
However, Jag Panzer surprised friend and foe by releasing further albums in the later years of the 1990s, gowing from strength to strength.
The sound of the album is similar to a beefed-up version of Iron Maiden with some Judas Priest-like aesthetics thrown in for good measure; the album, however, sounds far from derivative as Panzer clearly have a style of their own.

Jag Panzer, named after a breed of German mobile artillery, are responsible for one of the best metal albums of the 1990s, a magnum opus called Thane to the Throne, a classic concept album presenting Shakespeare's Macbeth that's really, in this writer's opinion, a full production worthy of at least a shot at Great Performances.

Although they are two totally different metal styles, I was way into the music both bands had to offer me. This is exactly the album you would expect from Jag Panzer -- Dio style metal, with plenty of dual lead guitar breaks.
Just listen to tracks like 'Frozen In Fear' for instance which thunders-along on a driving drumbeat, overlayed with a galloping bassline, crunching guitars, blazing guitar solos and Conklin's lung-busting voice reaching never-ending heights.
'Mechanized Warfare' could so easily have been associated with the 'cringe-factor', but although this is nothing new, Jag Panzer's years of experience and expertise have culminated to produce a fine traditional metal album and solid addition to their back-catalogue.

This CD is released by Century Media Records.
The album does hit a lull proceeding "The Scarlet Letter's" jagged-edge, slows up, drones a bit before that piercing look returns to the eye of the shooter-"Power Surge," picks up steam, flattens everything in its path, then roars off into the distance, giving way to the sentimentally drawn "All Things Renewed."

Colorado's Jag Panzer have always used their long, complicated, inscrutably metal history to positive effect, and now regularly touring and with a stable line-up for five albums now, the specific vision is honed even sharper.
Casting The Stones possesses a harrowing underground metalness that is somehow, in comparison to the recent stuff, more melodic and triumphant but darker at once, the twin riffing of Broderick and Briody working rhythmically, with spaces, o'er which Broderick solos artfully.
This is by far the best sounding album they've done, and Harry sings his ass off.

Tracks like opener "Take to the Sky", "Cold is the Blade (and the Heart That Wields It)" are both great tracks that show Jag Panzer laying a new school element on top of their traditional metal roots, as well as creating that epic, empowered feeling that makes this style such a hit.
Having member problems and breaking up in 1985, only to reform again during the power metal reincarnation of the early to mid-1990's, Jag Panzer has the credentials and experience that many of the new school bands playing traditional metal claim to have.
But then opuses including "The Scarlet Letter" and "Frozen in Fear" fall flat on their face, as just cheesy power metal songs lacking in any thought or vision.
