Irony - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For the song by Alanis Morissette, see Ironic (song).
The song "Poor Jud" from the musical Oklahoma!
In 2004, Morissette herself acknowledged that the song doesn't live up to the definition, which is what makes it ironic.

She also recorded an acoustic version of the song with the amended lyric for an exclusive iTunes Music Store release.
"Ironic" is the title of a 1995 song written and performed by singer Alanis Morissette, which first appeared on her highly successful international debut album Jagged Little Pill.
The song was parodied in an MTV commercial featuring Donal Logue as a cab-driver with his quadruplicate counterparts spouting similarly un-ironic ideas.

Ironic was amazingly popular, and I have listened to this song so many times, but I still like it.

 Ironic by Alanis Morissette Songfacts
This song, like the whole album, was all about emotional honesty.
I seem to recall that when this song was at it's peak back in 1996, a university professor studied this song, and released a report discussing the complete inaccuracy in the events it details as being ironic.
you listen to a song called "ironic", and you probably expected there to be even a little irony in it.

 Irony and Ignorance
Notice that it doesn't matter that the song's critics have collectively made many times the number of mistakes that they claim are in the song, the focus on the song's usage alone does not waver.
There is a peculiarly maddening song in the charts at the moment, a work which has its irritant effect not because of some nagging, unshiftable melody - lodging in the brain like a popcorn husk beneath a molar - nor because of some repeated lyrical idiocy.
It is a light-hearted song, not an English assignment.

Guitar 2 handles all the rhythm figures and adds the boost in the song by accompanying Guitar 1 with some of the chords in the chorus sections Ideally, Guitar 1 should be acoustic and Guitar 2 should have a switch between a soft neck postion sound and distortion.
The song itself is fairly easy and sounds great when played with a band.
I suggest you just listen to the track.

The song's performer, Michele Cody, is from the cloying-kid category, and the song itself from the dead-Elvis genre -- the combination is deadly, especially Cody's spoken coda in which she attempts to hook Elvis up with Jesus for some kind of heavenly rendezvous.
Their response to the typical music-genre checklist that a song-poet is given when buying his recording is the requirement that the songs on this album be in the style of a specific recording artist.
The lyrics of one side of the album were composed by a song-poet, himself a former big-band singer, who sent them to Exotic to be set to music so he could present material for his kids to use in their garage band.

In Music We Trust - Ben Folds: Invisible Circles
Turning a guitar heavy track into a song driven mostly by piano and bass is no small feat afterall.
If Ben had gone into the studio and recorded a finished version of the song it might be a different story since his take on the song has lot's of potential.
That persona is what made songs like "Army" so great, because the two sides of Ben existed simultaneously, but here the songs are either funny or sensitive.

She has really great songs i think, but you have to listen to them, because underneath all that over-vocalising that she seems so adept at, there are some really good issues that she brings up.
Alanis Morissette's song 'Ironic' is nothing more or less than a piece of trash.
· The problem with the "Ironic" song is that there is precisely one situation in there which is actually ironic.

So in the interest of fairness, and erring generously in her favor, I took the time to examine the lyrics of Alanis's song, and discover for myself what was truly ironic and what wasn't.
Ignoring good advice is ironic, but only if the listener suffers some kind of befitting karmic punishment as a result.
To be perfectly honest, I'm more surprised that there are music critics who do know what "ironic" means than I am that there are 21 year-old pop singers who don't.

 ironic
The examples of what is theoretically ironic through the rest of the song range from the merely inane, such as, "It's like rain on your wedding day," to the unbelievably idiotic, like, "It's the good advice that you just didn't take." Not taking good advice is, once again, exactly what is expected.
Also, my saying, "I can't imagine how I managed to get through life without having heard this song," would be an example of irony, although that's rather debatable, as it could also be construed as sarcasm.
Now, let's take a look at the words of the song.

Alanis still sings the song (with excellent little changes such as, "it's like meeting the man of your dreams, then meeting his beautiful husband") because it's a great song.
He played every single instrument on the album (numbering over 25) and the songs are simply glorious.
Yes, it's impressive that a vapid pop song can use the word "hyperbole" in its lyrics, but not when it's pronounced "hyper-bowl".

Ever since Ms Alanis Morrisette sang those words in her song "Ironic" of her 1995 album "Jagged Little Pill" my mind has been wondering what others have wondered.
My second theory is that Alanis knows damn well what irony is, and has deliberately not included any examples of irony in the song.
