The instrument used the same basic idea as the Theremin, but instead of a radio antenna, it utilized a moveable electrode was used to produce capacitance variants.

 TUBA FAQS
In fact, because it is the lowest brass instrument and can produce sounds that are virtually impossible to imitate on the other brass, the tuba can often be heard in movie scores playing very low notes as special effects.
Tubas are the important foundation instruments of the concert band.

Punknews.org Motion City Soundtrack - I Am The Movie [reissue]
Although the keyboard is an important instrument throughout the album it is not the driving force...its slick integration with the drums, bass, and guitar as well as strong vocals gives the album that "special" touch.
If you love the sound of a well oiled moog machine then "I am the Movie" is one of those cds that will retain a perminant position in your cd changer.
The Spiffy cover is really fun to stare at when bored (not that I know), and the overall clean up of all the songs that were on the previous album just rock.

The Code's other principle permitted producers to deny responsibility for a movie's content, through a particular kind of ambiguity, a textual indeterminacy that shifted the responsibility for determining what the movie's content was away from the producer to the individual spectator.
In complete contradiction to the mythology of the Code not functioning during the early 1930s, its records reveal that this period actually saw by far the most interesting negotiations between the studios and the Code administrators over the nature of movie content, as the Code was implemented with increasing efficiency and strictness after 1930.
