Most modern forms of music have those record labels that stand out, like Motown and other rock and punk labels.

Another key element is that the new music will operate outside the mainstream musical industry, but the most important component is that the new music will rediscover noise and violence as crucial for its expression (he cites John Cage and free jazz as prototypes of this new musical stage).
None of the people involved in industrial music seems to have thought much in a theoretical way about their use of noise elements, which is in keeping with the groups' general ignorance of musical matters.

The impulse of industrial music was to shock and provoke the audience into listening to the sounds of a culture's excesses, and (perhaps) to reconsider the role such excesses play in the social control of human beings.
By positioning himself at the center of his music, Reznor is not only able to resolve the contrasting musical attitudes but fundamentally question the role which music and the music industry play in the shaping, defining, and controlling of human bodies, subjectivities, and ideologies.
Reznor's body, in other words, is so overwhelmingly present within the music that it becomes a dangerously enticing object of spectacle, distracting the listener by supplanting the significance of the musical text with a fetishistic link between the listener's desires and the work itself.

Industrial's trademark sound was harsh and menacing, but its rage was subordinate to the intentionally mechanical, numbingly repetitive qualities of the music, which fit the lyrics' themes of alienation and dehumanization quite well.
A perfect case could be made for it as the ultimate industrial music song, with Delgado's at once insistent and sensual singing, lyrics referencing not just Mussolini but any number of fascist figures (as titles of dance crazes, no less!), and Görl's astonishing percussion crunch and bassline.

BRGoths - Subgenres of Gothic/Industrial Music
Where Gothic music is dark and sinister in mood, Industrial music is cold, mechanical and bleakly futuristic.
While it is true that musical genres are purely convention, the convention is what it is because it is useful -- we can convey the type of music we like without relying on our listener's knowledge of individual songs or bands, for example.
What follows is an explanation of the subgenres of music which together comprise the genres of Gothic and Industrial music as well as some related genres.

 What is Industrial Music?
So "industrial music" is just another term that becomes only a point of reference; it suggests general sounds and techniques and perhaps a processed/automated character of the music, but beyond that it is purely relative.
But perhaps, "industrial" is a much more broad term that suggests the sonic or structural influence of modernized and automated society into music.
The applications of these techniques and the wide variety of uses reveals the influence of industrial music elements in almost every modern music genre.
