Immortal (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Immortal's early full-length releases were of a tradional black metal style, but their acclaimed album "At the Heart of Winter" saw the band begin to experiment with a complex fusion of black metal and German thrash.
Immortal was a prominent black metal band from Bergen, Norway.
The group began in 1989 as "Amputation", a death metal band.

 Metallian.com - Immortal
Amputation was formed in 1989 as a death metal band in Bergen.
The song is reminiscent of the band's hitherto best composition Mountains Of Might lyrically, perhaps even musically with its less chaotic midsection.
It might be that the band rubbed shoulders with the Americans on tour and soaked in a bit too much, or the introduction of a new drummer has made all the difference in the world (I would stick with the former theory), but Immortal has discovered intense musicianship.

Corpse paint - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Corpse paint (sometimes a single word, corpsepaint) is a style of black-and-white makeup used extensively by black metal bands during live concerts and photo shoots as part of their imagery of evil and decay.
Hellhammer and early Slayer were perhaps the first death metal or black metal groups to use such makeup, approximately in 1983, but there are further quasi-contemporary applications: Celtic Frost, The Misfits and King Diamond of Mercyful Fate used similar makeup in the early 1980's.
Some bands, such as Emperor and Borknagar, avoid it altogether nowadays.

Torry, who writes most of the band's lyrics, and comes up with the music with the rest of the band, is the source of much of the fury, anger and scorn in A Change of Pace's music.
Within months, the band was signed to Immortal Records, original home of Korn and Incubus, among others, and in a Las Vegas studio recording their bow with producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette (Incubus, Three Days Grace, Chevelle).
Their age is belied by the sheer energy and roar behind such tracks as "Loose Lips Sink Ships," "Till Death Do Us Part," "Every Second" and "Asleep at the Wheel," which combine the bludgeoning martial synchronization of hardcore metal with surging buzzsaw choruses that nod to both emo and punk.

Compare Prices and Read Reviews on My Immortal [Single] - Evanescence at Epinions.com
Both variations of ”My Immortal” (to recap – the album version and the band version) are perfect, as well as the video.
The only other real difference between the album version and this alternate take is that band briefly kicks in with a guitar and drum piece near the end of the song, and there’s some low-fi organ sounds added quietly into the background.
The way the band suddenly kicks in with guitar licks near the end of the piece reminds me completely of Guns ‘n’ Roses and their 90’s power ballad ”November Rain.” It totally adds that theatrical and dramatic feel to the song, and before you know it, it’s gone and the song and video are over.

The piano plays a significant role in the majority of the band's music.
On many music-related news articles, the band is often compared to nu-metal band Linkin Park, but many fans find this comparison unfair because it is based almost solely on their hit single 'Bring Me to Life.' Much of their other music, they say, sound very different.
However, Lee herself does not consider the record to be an actual album; rather, she considers it merely a bundle of demo songs (some of which she says are not done properly) that was sent to record companies.

 Immortal - Black Metal
The most technical of the Scandinavian black metal bands, Immortal fused melody and sweeping song structures with the strumming technique and rhythmic framework of modern metal.
An introduction of wind noises blown through some sort of insane PA distortion, with soft rising music in the background and chanting, sounds like a keyboard version of a soundtrack to a 50s war film and as such is the perfect introduction to the dissident music of the generation after the children of the 1950s.
Review: To surpass the sheer intensity of previous experiments in high-intensity speed and melody, Immortal furthered the evolution of their music by incorporation of a surprising ancestor to much of the innovation in current metal: progressive death metal.

Preferring to remain a three-piece, the band recorded the Unholy Forces of Evil/The Cold Winds of Funeral Frost 7” for the French label Listenable Records in 1991, which eventually led to Immortal’s contract with another French imprint, Osmose Records.
Of all the Norwegian black metal bands, Immortal has, arguably, stuck the closest to the mystical, occult-inspired vision of the scene: the band members kept the evil-Kiss makeup throughout the band’s existence, rarely experimented outside of the traditional guitars-drums-bass instrumental configuration, and never revealed their real names.
In 2001, the band, looking for better U.S distribution for its albums, severed its longtime relationship with Osmose and signed to Nuclear Blast Records, which released Sons of Northern Darkness in 2002.
