 Guru (rapper) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Guru was featured on the BT track "Knowledge of Self" from his 2003 album Emotional Technology.
Guru (Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal) is an alternative rapper, best known for his pioneering work in the fusion of jazz and rap, and as one half of Gang Starr.
Though the Jazzmatazz albums were commonly considered some of the best rap in the early 1990s, Guru's reputation suffered slightly with the mixed reviews of Streetsoul (2000) and Baldhead Slick and Da Click (2001).

 Guru :: Jazzmatazz * Streetsoul :: Virgin Records
Guru and his partner DJ Premier released a decade of classic albums as the combo GangStarr, but what's somewhat surprising is the lack of recognition Guru's experimental "Jazzmatazz" albums have received by comparison.
Guru's raps were just as sharp, and the music was just as ill - in some cases iller.
Instead of specifically invoking the "sound" of jazz this time, Guru opted more for the "spirit" of jazz music - free-flowing collaborations that utilize the best talents of all contributors.

 Guru - Free Music Downloads, Videos, CDs, MP3s, Bio, Merchandise and Links
Rapper/composer Guru (real name Keith Elam) first rose to prominence as the "lyrical half" of the hip-hop duo Gang Starr, one of the first outfits that attempted to fuse jazz with rap.
Despite his solo career, Guru has remained true to Gang Starr all along, continuing to contribute to such further albums as 1994's Hard to Earn and 1998's Moment of Truth.
The album featured guest appearances by the likes of Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd, and N'Dea Davenport of the Brand New Heavies, and was followed up two years later by a sophomore solo outing, Jazzmatazz, Vol.

 TrouserPress.com :: Gang Starr
Guru's theory, which he goes into at length and proves by example, is that both hip-hop and jazz are "musical cultural expression(s) based on reality," so the two have much more in common than some might think.
He also spotlights French rapper MC Solaar, Brand New Heavies singer N'Dea Davenport (the sexiest tracks are their duets) and Carleen Anderson.
Although both have successfully pursued other projects — Guru has released two albums under the Jazzmatazz aegis, while Premier clocks dollars producing records for every other hip-hop artist — together they make genre-defining music.
