Alice in Chains - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In November 1995, Alice in Chains returned with the release of a self-titled album, Alice in Chains, commonly referred to as "Tripod" or "Three" due to the image of a forlorn three-legged-dog on the album cover, and because it was the band's third full album.
During the summer of 1993, Alice in Chains joined bands such as Primus, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, and Babes in Toyland for the alternative music festival Lollapalooza, where the band was very well received.
Alice in Chains was an influental grunge rock group initially formed by lead singer Layne Staley (1967-2002) in the mid-1980s as Alice N' Chains before changing the spelling.

Alice in Chains Greatest Hits) is an album by the grunge band Alice in Chains.
It is the second collection of hit songs by the band, and could be considered a shorter version of their previous one, Nothing Safe: The Best Of The Box.
It was released on July 24, 2001 on Columbia Records.

Often regarded as their best album by metal fans, Alice in Chains' debut on album, "Facelift", is one that I've grappled with extensively over the years.
Alice In Chains is no doubt the heaviest grunge band out.Just think of them as metal.Anyways,"Facelift", is a very good overall album.Though many casual listeners will pick this up for the first two songs. As they are the most familiar radio play wise.

But there's no new stuff on "Alice in Chains Greatest Hits." There's no multimedia on there, nor, I am told, is there anything special about the packaging of the album.
Sure, a couple of songs were alternate or live versions on that CD, but the music is still the same.
Since that last, self-titled studio disc, however, they've put out one unplugged disc, one live disc, a box set, and a sampler' from that box set, which serves as a pretty good, "Best of" type set from that band.

The only thing that separates their Greatest Hits album from Nothing Safe (which features 15 tracks; not ten) is the semi-worthy ballad "Heaven Beside You".
I'm a huge Alice in chains fan, having grown up in the 80's metal seen, this band is one of the seattle seen grunge bands that killed my beloved hair-metal.
The quartet's heavy, dirgelike music is aging well, but the 10 songs that comprise Greatest Hits are the basic radio hits.

Alice in Chains: Greatest Hits - PopMatters Music Review
At its worst, Greatest Hits reduces Alice in Chains to a singles-oriented band, ignoring the band's sludgy legacy of addiction-fueled hard rock.
Unlike virtually every other metal band that ever penned a ballad, Alice in Chains turned off the amps and wrote songs that were a natural extension of their louder material, not attempts at lighter-waving date anthems.
The unevenness of Alice in Chains is chronological, with the aforementioned bottomless pit of vault releases.

It's just too bad that these songs are being used, and re-used in a naked grab at squeezing even more money out of the fans that made the band in the first place.

Live marks the fourth "greatest hits" work since Alice's third original full-length album was issued in 1995.
While fans wonder if troubled Seattle sludgesters Alice in Chains will ever release another new album, the band has built a cottage industry from its old material.
A mushy, uneven mix smothers the band's live energy and power, and shoddy edits make the album sound like someone merely taped it off the radio.

Alice in Chains - Nothing Safe - (Album Commentary via proudestmonkeys.com)
Such grim tidings greet Nothing Safe: The Best of the Box, a "greatest hits" package touting the forthcoming arrival of an Alice in Chains boxed set.
Nothing Safe is pretty standard fare as "greatest hits" albums go, as the band has offered most of the expected favorites, yet none of the gems or rare cuts that are sure to clutter the boxed set.
Nothing Safe samples liberally from the band's four major releases, beginning with Facelift, the band's edgier 1990 debut album.

 In Memory of Layne Staley
Since that time, Staley became an ever-growing recluse in and out of treatment centers for his heroin addiction and their label continued to release compilations, the most recent being the 2001 "Greatest Hits" album.
Despite the clichés, I suppose there is nothing more left to do but accept the fact that Staley’s legacy will live on in his music and in our own veins -- as the ultimate high he was always searching for and never found.
Layne Staley was almost a running gag with his constant treks into rehab that thwarted any new "Alice in Chains" releases since their 1995 self-titled effort.

 A Tribute to Layne Staley
He continued his career with Alice In Chains, releasing one more studio album, an unplugged album and video, two greatest hits, a live album, and a box set.
Layne Staley was born in Kirkland, WA on August 26, 1967.
His music career began early, at age 12, when he started playing the drums and singing in various glam bands.

 The Raveonettes
In its years as a platform for upcoming bands to showcase their talent in the capital, the Water Rats has played host to debuting artists from the likes of Alice in Chains, Oasis and most famously, was the stage for Bob Dylan's first UK appearance on December 22 1962.
The greatest hits set may be quite a way off for The Raveonettes, but if their intoxicating brand of raw rockin' psychedelia is anything to go by, then 2003 should see them prove to the world that Denmark exports much more than bacon, Carlsberg and Peter Schmeichel.
Their debut album Whip It On clocks in at just 21 minutes, with no track over three minutes long.
