Topic: Frank's Wild Years

 Frank Marino 2
Larry: Frank is a one of a kind, like Bach, Elvis, the Beatles, just because he didn't get the recognition that they got doesn't make it anymore so, he has impressed me for 30 years and his music never dies, songs I listened to 30 years ago still sound great today.
Wild Willy: Well, not to sound biased, but Frank Marino is in a league of his own because of his ability to play all different kinds of music, not just blazing guitar solos.
When listening to Franks music I skip no filler tracks or tracks that are boring to get to the next song because they’re just aren't any of those anywhere in his body of work.

 Amazon.com: Music: Franks Wild Years
Frank's Wild Years was my first disc of his, and boy it had taken a while to reach the point where I got the courage to get it.
I feel "Tom's Wild Years", with its more "mainstream" (relatively speaking) approach, is a good entry point for newcomers.
True, there's a pervading sense of gloom overiding this album but every song is a gem if you take the time to dust off what's offered.

 Tom Waits
Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs and Frank's Wild Years were a trilogy of loose concept albums, following sailor Frank O'Brien, as he leaves the familiar comfort of home, sees the world, and returns.
John's early output, there was little precedent in popular music for Swordfishtrombones or its followups, Rain Dogs and Frank's Wild Years.
Though not entirely unprecedented, the album's gritty rhythm and blues sound was different for Waits, and forshadowed the major changes in his music that would follow several years later.

Wild Man Fischer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Discovered by Frank Zappa, with whom he cut his first record album, Fischer became an underground club and concert favorite, earning him the title of "godfather of outsider music." Zappa was responsible for Fischer's initial foray into the business of music—An Evening with Wild Man Fischer— contains 36 tracks of 'something not exactly musical'.
The final (to date) Wild Man release was Rhino's The Fischer King in 1999, which was a two-CD package comprising 100 tracks and a 20-page booklet.
Larry "Wild Man" Fischer (born Lawrence Wayne Fischer, 6 November 1945 in Los Angeles, California, USA) has the curious claim to fame of being responsible for Rhino Records' first release—Go to Rhino Records (1975).

Rubin and producer Jeremy Lubin taped Wild Man during the last three years, building his history through found footage while interviewing those Fischer played with, attacked, and inspired.
Josh Rubin's fascinating documentary dissects the life of Larry "Wild Man" Fischer, juggling the question: lunatic or musical genius?
Singing his own strange songs for a dime (think Bobcat Goldthwait doing nursery rhymes) along Sunset Boulevard, he caught the ear of Frank Zappa, who signed him to his record label and officially stamped Fischer's name into musical history.

Artt Frank: Bop Drummer, Composer, Lyricist
Bop drummer/composer/lyricist Artt Frank is best known for his long-term association with trumpeter immortal Chet Baker, with whom he worked for well over twenty years.
Artt Frank truly adds further intensity to the heartchords that begin to resonate in your soul, whether he swings lightly with great skill or creates tone poems during the interplay of a sensitive ballad.
Artt Frank notes, "Ken's playing is so reminiscent of Chet Baker, even though Chet played trumpet and flugelhorn, the similarity in their playing is astounding when you consider that Chet always played with simplicity, yet with so much great lyricism -- and he blew the greatest long tones of anyone in jazz history.

Frank is quite right to dislike uninformed comment for in recent weeks and months his team has been the centre of a great deal of rumour: there was Nigel Mansell's contract last year; and this year there has been criticism of Alain Prost's driving and wild stories about whether Damon Hill can win races.
For many years Frank cleaned the cages, his own underfunded team being the laughing stock of the paddock.
Frank doesn't care about the past, so he doesn't care that once he was known as "Wanker" Williams, because of his lack of success.

 William Frederick Cody
Hopkins claimed to be a headline act for the Wild West's first and second European tours, but when we examined historical records such as ships' manifests, program books, and the extensive newspaper clipping scrapbooks, we discovered no evidence that anyone named Frank T. Hopkins had anything to do with Buffalo Bill or his exhibition.
Touchstone Pictures' Hidalgo stars Viggo Mortensen as Buffalo Bill's Wild West cast member and cowboy Frank T. Hopkins.
Over the years, at least thirty-nine movies have featured Cody as a character or as the main subject, and one more is about to hit the big screen as this issue goes to press.

On Nov. 27, 1887 in a gun battle with the with the Smith-Dixon Gang, Frank Dalton was shot and killed.

He would soon join his brothers old partners and together they would terrorize the territories for years to come as the infamous Doolin-Dalton Gang.

Sinatra's feelings were such that once when he learned that Peter Lawford was in the audience he was about to perform in front of that he refused to come out until Lawford and his wife were removed from the audience.

This stands out as a return to "Franks Wild Years" and "Black Rider" after the excellent and raw "Bone Machine" and "Mule Variations".
I liked "Blood Money" so much, that I'd put it up there with "Bone Machine", "Swordfishtrombones", "Rain Dogs", "Frank's Wild Years", "Small Change" and "Closing Time".
Blood Money's 13 songs were cowritten by Tom Waits and longtime collaborator and wife Kathleen Brennan for a Robert Wilson production of Georg Büchner's unfinished, protomodernist 1837 play, Woyzeck, about a Kafkaesque German soldier who goes crazy after doing medical experiments for money and kills his girlfriend after witnessing a perceived infidelity.

 Did Butch Cassidy Return?
During a panel discussion on Butch Cassidy at the 1996 WOLA convention in Craig, Colorado, Wild Bunch researcher Steve Lacy passed around photocopies of several letters purportedly mailed to Matt Warner's widow in the late 1930s and early 1940s by Frank Ervin, a man claiming to be Butch Cassidy.
She said that Butch talked into the night, and the next morning he and his brother Mark rode up to a family cabin, where they met their brother Eb and Lula's son Mark, who was eleven years old at the time.
Over the years, four distinctly different views developed within the family: Butch came back and was Phillips; Butch came back but wasn't Phillips; Butch didn't come back; and Butch's fate is unknown.
