Floor tom - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A second 16x18 floor tom, to the right of the 16x16, appeared in the late 1960s and was popularised as part of the extended kits used by progressive rock bands in the 1970s.
The floor tom was popularised by Gene Krupa in the 1950s, using a 16x16.
By far the most common size for a floor tom is 16x16, that is 16" in depth and 16" in diameter.

Tom-tom drum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A third hanging tom is often used instead of a floor tom.
Unlike other toms, roto toms have a definite pitch and some composers write for them as a tuned instrument, demanding specific notes.
Later, the mounted tom-toms, known as hanging toms or rack toms, were deepened by one inch each, these sizes being called power toms.

Epica The Phantom Agony Review and Interview at Musical Discoveries
Mark Jansen's occasional grunt atop the identical arrangement contrasts significantly--that the two vocalists duel between beauty and the beast makes for interesting listening to those new to the genre and brings back memoirs of early After Forever to longtime fans.
But it is the symphonic texture of the choir and orchestra and vast dynamic excursions that contribute to the overall magnitude of the epic.
Jansen's occasional grunt reminds listeners despite the orchestral and choir passages that this is after all a metal album.

 After Forever at Musical Discoveries
Floor Jansen's singing has never before been so strong and diversified, the combinations with choir and classical orchestra are at exactly at the right places and the use of melodious elements and supplementary samples in the sound make this album into one that simply nobody will be able to get round.
Sharp contrasts between Floor's vocals and the harder edged grunts are evident throughout the album; similar contrasts between the album's softest ballad-style tracks and metal-edged rockers exist.
Floor's vocal work soars in the ballad "My Choice," the title track of the band's single released after the mini-album.

PROGRESSIVEWORLD.NET: REVIEWS BY LARRY "LARRYD" DAGLIERI
This is without a doubt Floor Jansen at her best, After Forever at their best, and this disc shows why they have been at the top of the heap in this genre, and will continue to be with performances like this one.
Floor Jansen, however, became even more popular during this time and continued to establish herself as the best female singer in the world and the band saw themselves gaining strength and popularity with each passing day.
The female, in this case, Floor Jansen, just happens to be the best female vocalist in this style as well, possibly the best in the metal world today.

 DPRP Reviews - 2004 - 33
On this CD it is evident that the voice of Floor is even more “dominant” than on the previous albums, but it is also clear that the music has changed from gothic metal to darker, heavier, powerful metal.
During the more tranquil passages the voice of Floor Jansen, generally playing the role of the child, sings of her plight as a child who is but an annoying presence that her career-obsessed parents prefer to ignore.
Thankfully, the loss of Mark Jansen doesn’t seem to have had a particularly detrimental effect on the band’s song-writing abilities, and the majority of the tracks on this album work very well indeed.

Floor Jansen, vocalist with Dutch Metal band AFTER FOREVER, spoke to the webmaster of U.K. fan site After Forever UK immediately after the band made their U.K. debut appearance at the Bloodstock Festival in Derby, on Saturday, September 3.
Floor Jansen: "Well, somebody asked me in another interview, 'Can you give me three words for the album?' And I said: heavy, melodic and typically AFTER FOREVER.

A complex story of child neglect, loneliness and abandonment. With the amazing voice of Floor Jansen telling the tale of a couple obssesed with their jobs and their own ego's that when the wife becomes accidentally pregnant they don't see it as a blessing but as a burden.
Jansen left after the release of the band’s impressive second album “Decipher” to form Epica, with whom he released the equally impressive “The Phantom Agony” last year.
Fans shouldn’t be afraid however: Floor Jansen’s soprano voice, Sander Gommans’ grunts, the ever present bombast and a couple of Eastern influences are still there; gone are Mark Jansen’s high-pitched screams and the slight black metal influence with them so that the whole sounds a tad less aggressive.

The group has grown musically from their last work with departed guitarist Mark Jansen (who is not related to Floor in case you wondered) and began the groundwork on this CD which best serves as an introduction to the coming album Invisible Circles.
Singer Floor Jansen is aiming to make fans of the Finnish band Nightwish and Within Temptation her own with her dynamic style and vocal prowess.

 BNR Metal Pages -- Epica
Floor Jansen (After Forever) and Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation) made their marks on the scene a few years ago, and now they are joined by Simone Simons of this band, Epica.
Speaking of After Forever, Epica was formed by Mark Jansen, who was also the founding member of After Forever, he deciding to leave that band in 2002.
The Phantom Agony, Epica's debut album, proves that the band is every bit as good as the aforementioned fellow Dutch bands, featuring wonderfully flawless soprano vocals from Simons (along with the rare male death growl, a nice touch), and rich, majestic classically-influenced symphonic gothic metal.

CD review - After Forever, Prison of desire
They know how to play better, and they show it in "Black tomb", a song with a very calm beginning in which Floor shows again who has that "something different" that all good bands should have to differentiate themselves of the others.
The voice of Floor overcomes in power (it is not difficult) to that of Anne Nurmi and that of Liv Kristine, being more comparable to that of Sandra Schleret (Dreams of Sanity), but with more versatility and registrations.
As I usually say in these cases, I don't advise the progressive fans to rush to buy this CD without having listened to it first, since this music it is not the typical one that can seduce the progressive listener.

13th Floor Elevators - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 13th Floor Elevators, a rock music group founded in Austin, Texas in late 1965, are commonly regarded as one of the first psychedelic bands and have been cited as an influential protopunk group.
The International Artists record label in Houston signed the Elevators to a record contract, and released the album, The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators in the latter part of 1966, becoming an underground classic among the burgeoning counterculture.
The band's name is a play on the superstitions that lead to many tall buildings not having a 13th floor, and the fact that the letter "M" (for marijuana) is the thirteenth letter of the alphabet.

::.. Metal Monk UK ..:: - AFTER FOREVER
The shared lyric writing duties of Floor and Mark allow their song meanings to be diverse, with some lyrical themes focussed around the Islamic religion, even quoting the Quo'ran at points and some from a more personal, emotional perspective.
First formed in the mid-90s in Holland by guitarists Mark Jansen and Sander Gommans, the vocal talents of Floor Jansen (not related to Mark) were shortly enlisted.
Now gone are any politics; Floor’s emotional lyrics are usually able to avoid clichés, probably with the help of Gommans whose day job as a teacher gives him a different outlook on psychology.
