Field recordings have the unique capacity to instantly transport the listener to an utterly foreign environment.
Conrad Praetzel and his band of daring neo-traditionalists have created a profoundly affecting and contemporary monument to the American folk tradition, re-visioning the regional music of the early 20th century and placing it in a dynamic electro-acoustic setting to discover a sound that is at once strikingly modern and movingly authentic.

I suspect that you will have to use, at a minimum, two recorders so that the recording levels can be correctly set for each basic level of sound that your are recording, that is, the flute you are playing and the reflected sounds from distant objects.
While I have successfully recorded the flute playing in culverts and various similar venues with reflections, I am not certain of the success you may have, in terms of sound level, with a single recorder capturing both the flute and the reflections in a large out-of-doors setting.
Much better quality; Marantz is an excellent field recorder for tape; in fact, several years ago, when at Disneyworld in Florida, I was surprised to see a professional field crew making a commercial using several Marantz recorders in various locations of their shot.

 Field Recording Equipment Information
For recording equipment, four basic options are available: Reel-to-reel analog tape recorders, "standard" cassette recorders (The "micro" cassette recorders are generally too poor in quality to be seriously considered), DAT recorders using DAT tape, and mini-disk (MD) recorders.
The equipment set-up needed to capture sound recordings can be divided into two basic components: The recorder itself and the transducer or microphone.
